3M Open PGA Tour: Best Longshot Odds & Picks (2022)

With The Open Championship now in the rearview mirror, we look forward to this week’s 3M Open in Blaine, Minnesota. For the fourth straight year since the tournament’s inauguration, TPC Twin Cities will host this event.

TPC Twin Cities is a par 71, 7,431-yard track which features plenty of water. That being said, the three previous winners have shown us that the most important indicators of success at this tournament are a strong approach game and a confident putter.

Nate Lashley (+10000): 0.15u

At 100/1, Nate Lashley is worth taking a shot on to win his second career tournament since joining the PGA TOUR in 2017-18. While Lashley’s long-iron metrics are right around average, Lashley excels at getting to the green and finishing off the hole as he ranks 47th on TOUR in GIR% and 38th in SG Putting.

With a very watered-down field competing this week, these two rankings put Lashley towards the top of the competition in this tournament. I believe we are getting great value on Lashley because he has missed the cut in three of his last five tournaments.

However, in the two cuts he has made, Lashley finished inside the top 25 each time. Another reason why we are getting such a long price on Lashley is because of the fact that he has missed the cut in each of his two career appearances at TPC Twin Cities.

In actuality, the fact that he has four rounds under his belt is an advantage as there will be many golfers in this field who have never played this course as It only joined the TOUR three years ago. I am not too worried about the fact that he has failed to make the cut previously, as Cameron Champ missed the cut in his one appearance at TPC Twin Cities before winning in 2021 and Michael Thompson missed the cut in 2019 before winning the tournament in 2020.

Those two golfers finished 1st and 6th respectively in SG Putting amongst the field in their wins at TPC Twin Cities while they finished 26th and 4th in GIR%. With Lashley’s strong performance in these two areas this season, he is worth a sprinkle at 100/1.

Other Outright Winner Plays:

  • Rickie Fowler (50/1): 0.3u
  • Andrew Putnam (100/1): 0.15u

Best of luck!
