Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks Odds & Game Pick

The Arizona Cardinals snapped a six-game losing streak this past weekend, beating the hapless Cleveland Browns. Now they're challenge increases significantly as they'll visit the Seattle Seahawks, who are 11-3 and have a lot on the line. Seattle has a chance to get the No. 1 seed in the NFC, so they can't afford to take this game lightly. With the Cardinals just playing out the season, does this mean the Seahawks are likely to win big or can Arizona keep this close and cover?

Overview

The Cardinals are playing good teams competitively this year, they just aren't winning. They played the San Francisco 49ers close twice, they played the Pittsburgh Steelers close a few weeks ago and had a chance to win the game in the final minutes, and they played a tough, close game against the Baltimore Ravens earlier in the year. They have talent, with Kyler Murray in contention for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, and they might be better than their 4-9-1 record.

The bigger thing to note about this game is that the Cardinals have more wins in Seattle than any other NFL franchise over the past seven years. Arizona actually has a winning record (4-2) in the last six games played between the two teams in Seattle. They won in 2013, during the Seahawks' Super Bowl championship season, they won three straight games in Seattle from 2015 through 2017 and even last year, the Seahawks played a bad Arizona team - the team which got the first pick in the subsequent NFL Draft - and barely beat the Cardinals in Seattle, 27-24. This was the same Arizona team that was limping to the finish line under coach Steve Wilks, who got fired after only one season. Seattle struggled with the Cardinals then.

This year, Seattle has an 11-3 record and a chance to get home-field advantage in the playoffs, but the Seahawks are entering this game against the Cardinals with a lot of injuries. Bobby Wagner is the biggest one. He got injured late in the win over Carolina this past Sunday and his status is questionable, though he expects to play. Safety Quandre Diggs will miss the game with a high-ankle sprain. Jadeveon Clowney, Ziggy Ansah, and Mychal Kendricks were all out against Carolina. The Seahawks are cautiously optimistic about them, but it is clear they are all less than 100%. Seattle could be vulnerable despite the 11 wins.

Trends

  • Cardinals are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a road underdog.
  • Cardinals are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games on field turf.
  • Cardinals are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 road games.
  • Seahawks are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite.
  • Seahawks are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

Bottom Line

The Seahawks' defense might be getting key players back, but those players probably aren't likely to play at full strength. On top of that, the Seahawks always seem to play close games. They've failed to cover three of their last four as a home favorite of 7.5 to 10 points. While this looks like a mismatch on paper, the Cardinals will probably find a way to keep this within the spread.

Prediction: Seahawks 38, Cardinals 35
