Belgium coughed up a 15-point lead in the second quarter and lost to France in one of the two semifinal games at Bercy Arena. Offensively, France was horrible. France shot just 29.9% from the field and only hit 22.6% from downtown. The difference in that semifinal game was Belgium’s 22 turnovers.
Meanwhile, Belgium shot 44.2% from the field but took 25 fewer shots than France. They’re now 2-3 in the Olympics and fighting for Bronze against Australia.
Even against the United States, Australia shot better and didn’t turn the ball over nearly as much. Australia only added 64 points in a loss to the United States but committed just 12 turnovers and still shot 36.2% from the field. Australia had more success earlier in the tournament. If the turnovers stay down, Australia should escape with a bronze medal.
