As the calendar turns to July and much of the European soccer world begins to hit its stride in the COVID-19-era, the Belarus Premier League (BPL) turns the page on its 16th week of regular season play.

Since beginning their season on schedule just as the pandemic started to fire up, the BPL just passed the halfway point, and the movers and shakers have emerged. Since we’ve been following since week one, we’ve been able to cash tickets along the way and plan to keep doing so as the back half of the season takes us through the end of summer.

Let’s take a look at a Saturday morning matchup that I have my eye on between two BPL contenders.

BATE Borisov (-335) vs. Energetik-BGU (+800): Saturday, 9:00 AM EST

(Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook)

Since starting the season as one of the best teams in the league, the team they call the “Young Boys” (because of their average age of 22), Energetik, has turned in mixed results. The squad has gone 5-2-3 over their last 10, and they have been one of the hottest and coldest teams I’ve ever followed. While talented, they consistently play down to their opponent.

The last time we saw them out, however, was one of their best results of the season. Despite midfielder Dusan Bakic’s red card in the 27′, Energetik tallied four additional goals over the final 63′ to finish with a 5-0 result.

On the other side of this matchup is league powerhouse BATE Borisov. They enter this match as the winners of seven of their last 10. Sitting at the top of the table, two points clear of second-place Shakhtyor, BATE needs all the points they can get as three other teams sit just four points behind.

The surging Dinamo Minsk got the best of them the last time they saw the pitch a week ago. In what ended up being a 0-2 defeat, BATE couldn’t overcome two quick 60′ goals even while largely dominating the possession battle.

Before last week’s 5-0 explosion, Energetik had scored zero goals over their previous three. Against a strong top-to-bottom team like Bate, I expect another goal-less performance from them.

Prediction: Energetik UNDER .5 Goals (-125)
