Best Bet to Win a Major in 2020 (PGA Betting)

With the Sony Open in Hawaii now behind us, the 2020 golf calendar is amping up with The Masters at Augusta now less than three months away. Sitting atop the Official World Golf Rankings are two familiar names in Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy, who to the surprise of no one are also the favorites in nearly all four majors for the 2020 calendar year.

With sports betting legalization spreading across the country at a now rabid pace, the golf offerings from the big-name shops like DraftKings Sportsbook are also set to explode. The golf future market is often ripe for the picking, and if you can get ahead of the number well before the event, plenty of hedging opportunities and value plays will exist. Tiger Woods – To Win The Masters (+1000 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
All indications point toward the defending champion Tiger Woods returning to defend his title and go for his 16th major to pull within two of Jack Nicklaus. At this point in his career arc, the likelihood of Woods getting to 18 seems slim, but if there’s any course on the planet he can gain ground it’s Augusta. While the odds certainly seem short given his play over the last 12 months, I think Tiger’s entire game plan at this point is competing to win at The Masters and hang around enough in the rest of the Majors to give himself a fighting chance. At double-digit odds, I’ll take one final swing with Woods to defend the Green Jacket.

Rory McIlroy – To Win the US Open (+850 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
With it now over five years since his last Major victory, McIlroy is on a mission this season to add another major to his mantle. If his play as of late is any indication, it shouldn’t take long. Finishing the 2019 season atop the FedEx Cup rankings, McIlroy tallied 14 top-10 finishes which included three outright victories at The PLAYERS Championship, Canadian Open, and TOUR Championship while playing in just 19 events. In his two events played thus far in 2020, McIlroy has a first-place finish in the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions and a third in the ZOZO Championship. With his first major win coming at the US Open in 2011, it would only be fitting he gets back on track with a win in this one.

Brooks Koepka – To Win The Open (+1100 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Though it was rare, I had a rule when it came to betting majors in 2019. Any time I can get Koepka at double-digit odds, take it. Even when he didn’t win, which was equally rare, he was near the top on Sunday, and I was able to hedge against him in head-to-head matchups, guaranteeing myself a profit. Koepka, who has spent much of the offseason rehabbing from a knee injury, seemingly only really gets out of bed to compete in these Majors, and even if his knee is at 80%, he’ll still be 100% between the ears. With The Open the only major he doesn’t have under his belt, I imagine him being extremely focused on this one which will come a full nine months after returning from his most recent surgery for a patella tendon injury.
