Bogman’s Best College Football Bets for Week 2 (2021)

Check out my best bets for Week 2 of the college football season!

Week 1 Record: 5-4-1

Houston -7.5 at Rice
Rice had a decent showing in Week 1 against Arkansas but ultimately fell 38-17. Houston got an early lead but also lost their opener to Texas Tech 38-21. Rice is improving and even had the lead going into halftime against their SEC opponents, but Houston outmatches them defensively. Houston may have allowed 38 points last week, but quarterback Clayton Tune’s four interceptions are to blame, and I don’t expect Rice to ball-hawk as effectively as Tech. Houston led in time of possession 36:35-23:25, too, and if they come anywhere close to that against Rice, this will be an absolute beat down!

Notre Dame -16.5 vs. Toledo
Notre Dame didn’t have their best showing in Week 1, but let’s not forget how many players they had to replace: seven starters on offense and six on defense. They narrowly beat a tough Florida State squad (it may not always show on the field, but they always recruit well) on the road in overtime. I expect Notre Dame to come into their next game laser-focused, and while I respect Toledo, I don’t expect them to hold a candle to Notre Dame.

Virginia Tech vs. MTSU Under 54
This Hokies defense just held the Tar Heels to 10 points at home! I know that Bailey Hockman and MTSU put up a 50-burger on Monmouth in Week 1, but one of those scores came on a punt return, and another came on a pick-six. MTSU also had three fumble recoveries and didn’t turn the ball over once! However, they aren’t in Kansas (heh, Tennessee) anymore for their Week 2 matchup against the Hokies. Virginia Tech just sacked Sam Howell six times and forced three turnovers last week. I think the danger of the over would require the Hokies scoring the vast majority by themselves!

Arizona State vs. UNLV Over 53.5
Arizona State just put up 41 on Southern Utah by scoring six times on the ground because Jayden Daniels had cramps, which limited him to only 12 passing attempts. It’ll be another hot one in Tempe this Saturday, but I expect the Devils to finish with more than 12 passing attempts even if they’re dominating — I expect them to use this game to warm up for BYU next week. ASU might get to this total by themselves here, and UNLV put up 33 points last week, so I really like this low total.

Colorado State vs. Vanderbilt Under 50.5
This one is a pretty easy pick. Colorado State wants to run the ball, but they failed to do so against South Dakota State last week, and they had to throw the ball 49 times.  Meanwhile, Vanderbilt can’t score, and they only scored three points against East Tennessee State!  Vandy scored over 20 points just twice last year, and they recorded 17 or fewer points in their other seven outings.  Vandy should get better under new head coach Clark Lea, but it’ll take time.  Between Colorado State attempting to establish the run (so they don’t have to pass) and Vandy’s inability to score, I don’t know how they get to 50.

Other Bets I Like

  • Over 51.5 WKU at Army
