British Open Odds & Picks: Best Round 3 Futures Bets

Round 2 is in the books at the 152nd British Open, which means the cut line has been enforced. Royal Troon has been among the most difficult courses played in 2024, mostly due to the blustery conditions off the Scottish coastline.

Shane Lowry is the outright leader at 7-under-par, while Justin Rose ascended the leaderboard with four birdies in a 3-under-par outing to wrap up Round 2 at T2 alongside Daniel Brown. Scottie Scheffler, the betting favorite before Round 1 began, is the second betting favorite at +330 despite sitting five strokes behind Lowry. Jason Day, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Jason Day, and Corey Conners are also inside the top-ten, setting up great action at Royal Troon this weekend, especially with less windy conditions forecasted.

I’ve got a couple of best bets to place in the futures market ahead of Round 3. Follow me on X @Matt_MacKay_ for more free plays and PGA Tour best bets throughout the weekend.

Patrick Cantlay Top 10 Finishing Position (-125)

Patrick Cantlay memory-holed his bogey-filled Round 1 by going 3-under-par on Friday, tying the field for the best scorecard in Round 2. Cantlay’s four birdies were the result of top-tier ball-striking, ranking 11th strokes gained: approach and cleaning up nicely with his putter.

Dead heat rules apply for finishing position prop bets, however, at -125 odds, we’re landing a good price on Cantlay to continue performing well on approach and around the greens to stay in position to record a top-ten finish at Royal Troon. Cantlay has four top-ten finishes this season and has yet to add a major title to his resumé, so expect the Californian to continue his frenzied pace, coming off of a T3 at the U.S. Open and a T5 at Travelers.

Justin Rose Top 5 Finishing Position (-105)

We’re sticking with the finishing position betting market and backing Justin Rose to record a top-five finish at -105 odds. It’s almost even odds for this price and we’ve seen the Englishman come out swinging with a purpose during both rounds at Royal Troon.

Rose ranks second in total strokes gained despite playing in blustery, difficult conditions, which are forecast to wind up more mild over the weekend. In fact, Rose is 21st or better in every strokes gained category, including 12th putting, ninth off-the-tee, and 16th around the green.
