2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship PGA Tour Odds, Picks & Predictions

The PGA Tour will head offshore this weekend to the country of Bermuda, as Port Royal Golf Course will host the Bermuda Championship for the third straight year. Originally an alternate event, the Bermuda Championship is the only show in town this week, as players will duke it out for $6.5 million in prize money.

Let’s take a closer look at the course, field, and who might take home this year’s top prize.

Previous Winners of the Bermuda Championship

  • 2021: Lucas Herbert
  • 2020: Brian Gay
  • 2019: Brendon Todd

Course Preview: Port Royal Golf Course

Coming in at just 6,828 yards, the Port Royal Golf Course is one of the shortest on the PGA Tour rotation every season. A par 71, the course was built in just 2019 directly on the country’s southwest coast along the Southhampton Parish.

With its coastal climate, Port Royal is known for its erratic weather and wind, but also its thick rough that demands players hit the ball straight. It also demands a strong putter, as seven of the top 10 finishers in 2021 were in the top 10 in putting on the week. With a 72-hole record of 260 (Brendan Todd), PGA Tour players have been known to year this course up.

Russell Knox (+3000 on DraftKings Sportsbook

Three-for-three in top 20 appearances since this course came into the regular rotation in 2019, Knox looks primed to compete here at Port Royal once again this year. Over those 12 rounds, Knox also comes in with a scoring average of 68.3 up to this point. In this year’s field, Knox ranks #5 at Port Royal with true strokes gained of +1.22 and is the only player outside of past champion Brian Gay to finish T16 or higher in every single start here.

Knox also already has some success under his belt this season, with a pair of top 25s in the Fortinet and Sanderson Farms. As a Scot, Knox is one of the best players in high winds, which has partly contributed to his success here in Bermuda. As a Florida resident, Knox has also excelled on Bermuda greens, a surface he’ll be playing on all weekend.

With two PGA Tour wins already under his belt and one of the most established players in this sparse field, look for Knox to be in contention down the stretch come Sunday in Bermuda.
