Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennadiy Golovkin 3: Boxing Preview, Odds, Picks & Prediction (2022)
On Saturday, Saul “Canelo†Alvarez and Gennadiy “GGG†Golovokin will square off for the third time in one of the most eagerly anticipated trilogy fights in boxing history. A year after their initial meeting in September 2017, which ended in a controversial split decision draw, Alvarez defeated his opponent by a majority in the rematch; which was also controversial
Both times, there was a strong consensus that GGG performed well enough to prevail, and both times, the media and the public’s interest in the fight was at an all-time high. The two will now square off a third time and likely final time in front of a sold-out audience at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as GGG aims to put the matter to rest once and for all.

Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) vs. Gennadiy Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs)
Few expect GGG to pull off a win of this stature at this point in his career and most fans of the sport see it as just one final payday. GGG has won four straight fights after his loss to Canelo in 2018, winning the IBF and IBO middleweight titles along the way, though against much lesser-known opponents.
The last time we saw him in the ring, he had just won his second consecutive bout inside the distance, keeping both of the aforementioned belts while also claiming the WBA (Super) middleweight title. GGG will try once more to establish his legacy against probably the greatest middleweight to ever lace them, with his most recent bout in April 2022 serving as a warm-up.
As for Canelo, Saturday he will enter the ring in a situation that is very foreign to the 32-year-old fighter: after suffering a defeat. Canelo lost to Dmitry Bivol in a unanimous decision the last time we saw him compete, a fight he lost after moving up to light heavyweight for it.
The last (and first) time Canelo suffered a defeat was in a majority decision against Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in September of 2013. With a record of 14-1-0 since then, his only other setback was the draw against GGG, which he will undoubtedly seek to avenge in this bout to retain his WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight belts.
Bottom Line
While neither of these fighters is the guy we have seen in their past bouts, they are still at the top of the sport and unfortunately, some of the best boxing currently has to offer at this weight class. With the last two fights being almost too close to call, I don’t expect anything different here.
