Chicago Bears at Los Angeles Rams Odds & Game Pick

The defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams suddenly find themselves with their backs against the wall heading into Week 11. At 5-4, Los Angeles is three games behind first place in the NFC West, and they’re also two games back of the final NFC Wild Card with just seven games remaining on the schedule. Meanwhile, nobody is even doing the math for the Chicago Bears. They were a 12-win team last season, but they’ve been so pathetic offensively that nobody is expecting them to come anywhere near the playoffs.

The Rams are laying nearly a touchdown here. Should they be trusted to cover in this spot?

Overview

Just when it seemed as though the entire city of Chicago was ready to give up on Mitch Trubisky, he responded with his best performance of the season in a 20-13 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Trubisky threw three touchdown passes and posted a 131.0 passer rating in the victory. Nobody is really fooled, though, as the Bears still had to hang on for dear life at the end of the game against the Jeff Driskel-led Detroit Lions.

Meanwhile, rookie running back David Montgomery has scored four rushing touchdowns in four career road games. Montgomery ranks second among rookie running backs with 466 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He and fellow back Tarik Cohen will have their work cut out for them as they try to move the football consistently against this Los Angeles and keep the pressure off of Trubisky. Teams have not been able to run on the Rams, as their rushing defense ranks sixth in the NFL (90.8 rushing yards per game allowed).

Meanwhile, Jared Goff and the Rams will be happy to return home following an ugly 17-12 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Los Angeles has scored 24 points or more in six different games this season. They’ve also been held to 12 points or fewer in two of their last four games. The good news is that wide receiver Brandin Cooks could return from a concussion to give the offense the deep threat that it has lacked in the passing game. The bad news is that Goff hasn’t exactly done a good job of hitting open receivers downfield with consistency this season. Goff isn’t Trubisky, but he’s been a sizable disappointment with just 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions on the season.

The Rams absolutely need more out of running back Todd Gurley, and he was held to just 73 rushing yards in last week’s loss to Pittsburgh. The Rams defense has held its last three opponents to an average of just 12.3 points per game, and they even scored nine of the team’s 12 points last week. If they can force a couple of turnovers this week, it will really help out the struggling offense.

Trends

  • Chicago has won 6 of it lasts 7 versus the Rams
  • Bears are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 primetime games
  • The total has gone under in 4 of the Rams’ last 5 games
  • LA is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against NFC North opponents
  • The under is 4-1 in the Rams’ last 5 games overall

Bottom Line

While both teams will be desperate for a victory when they take the field for Sunday Night Football, Los Angeles has the edge for a couple of reasons. First, they are the more complete team on both sides of the football. Second, they will have the home-field advantage. Third, while Goff has been bad, he hasn’t been Trubisky-bad.

This is a huge line to cover, though, and I don’t trust either of these offenses right now. The under is the best play here.

Prediction: Rams 17, Bears 9
