Overview
With just one win and their eyes on Joe Burrow in the NFL Draft, this game is meaningless for the Bengals all around. No matter the result, they will continue to have the worst record in the NFL. Offensively, this team has been terrible, averaging a league-worst 15.1 points per game. Despite trailing in nearly every game, Cincinnati has recently committed to the run with Joe Mixon. He has averaged 21.7 carries over the last six games, and he has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in back-to-back weeks, averaging 5.88 yards per carry. While their run offense has improved, their run defense is no good, allowing 4.9 yards per rush (T-fourth-worst in NFL). On average, they allow over 400 yards per game, which is an easy way to rank at the bottom of the league.
The Dolphins have not been much better than the Bengals, with three wins to their name. However, they have been much more competitive despite continuing to lose playmakers. Nearly all of their success can be attributed to quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is playing without a conscious and letting it rip. He has 12 interceptions to only 15 passing touchdowns, but he has averaged 285 passing yards over the last five games to go along with 29 rushing yards per game. Defensively, this Dolphins team is horrendous all over, allowing a league-worst 31.1 points per game, including 33.4 over the past five games, which included just one team that currently has a winning record.
Trends
- Cincinnati is 1-15 straight up in its last 16 games.
- Cincinnati is 4-9 against the spread (ATS) in its last 13 games against Miami.
- Miami is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games.
- The total has hit the over in four of Miamiâs last five games.
- The Dolphins lead the all-time series with the Bengals, 16-7.
- Last Meeting: October 7, 2018 - The Bengals defeated the Dolphins, 27-17, at Paul Brown Stadium.
Prop Bet
All odds taken from FanDuel Sportsbook.
Spread/Total Points Parlay: Miami Dolphins +0.5 & Over 45.5 Points (+260)
This prop is giving us a point of cushion for both the spread and over/under, and we are going to capitalize on it with nice odds. As discussed above, these defenses are horrendous, allowing a combined 119 points over the past two weeks. Both offenses should be able to move the ball in this one, but when it comes down to making a play to win the game, I trust Ryan Fitzpatrick and DeVante Parker most, as they have been the two best players between these two team.
Bottom Line
I simply do not think the Bengals look like they have any motivation to win. They are running the ball over 20 times per game, which is wearing down one of the few talented players they have for the future. They are allowing teams to do whatever they want offensively, and Ryan Fitzpatrick will take advantage of that. While the Dolphins are not a good football team, Brian Flores has had his team playing hard and competing for a majority of this season. Based on effort and home-field advantage, Iâll side with the Dolphins in what essentially is a pickâem.
