Arizona Wildcats (-120) at Louisville Cardinals (-108) | O/U 9.5 (-112/-112)
The Wildcats (42-18) and Cardinals (38-21) meet Sunday at 2 p.m. ET, and the game can be viewed or streamed on ESPN/ESPN+.
In the opening game on Friday, Arizona held a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning in the opening game against Coastal Carolina, and the game was tied 4-4 heading to the bottom of the eighth. Unfortunately, the Wildcats bullpen was dinged for three runs in the bottom of the eighth, and the Wildcats were unable to cobble together any offense in the ninth.
Arizona’s Adonys Guzman was the hitting star Friday, going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, while SS Mason White was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored. 1B Tommy Splaine was 2-for-4 with a single and a double. The Wildcats also had three batters hit by pitch, too, while OF Aaron Walton had a walk, run scored and the team’s only stolen base.
Arizona fans are probably starting to dislike Coastal Carolina quite a bit. The Chanticleers beat the Wildcats in a best-of-three series in 2016 to take the national championship away from Arizona.
Louisville was also on the short end Friday in its opening game, falling 4-3 to Oregon State. The Cardinals were behind 3-1 to the top of the ninth inning, but Louisville fought back to tie the game heading to the bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately, the Cardinals saw the Beavers walk it off with OF Gavin Turley doubling in the game-winning run, as partner in crime SS Aiva Arquette scored. More on that duo below.
So, who is going home? The last time Arizona faced an ACC team, things went pretty well, as the Wildcats went into Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill, ousting host North Carolina in the Super Regionals to get to Omaha. Look for Arizona to be a problem for yet another ACC foe, while the Under cashes. Both teams are likely to have some jitters, trying to avoid an early trip home.
Picks: Arizona Wildcats Moneyline (-120) & Under 9.5 Total Runs (-112)
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (-135) at Oregon State Beavers (+105) | O/U 9.5 (-105/-125)
In the winner’s bracket game, the Chanticleers (54-11) and Beavers (48-14-1) square off at 7 p.m. ET looking to move to 2-0 in Omaha, trying to take one step closer to a national title. The loser isn’t done, but will have a much more difficult road.
Coastal Carolina did a great job holding off Arizona in a tremendous game on Friday. 2B Blake Barthol was fantastic, going 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBI, while SS Ty Dooley, DH Dean Mihos, OF Blagen Pado and OF Wells Sykes each had two hits apiece, with Sykes recording his first double of the postseason. Sykes also had a stolen base while driving in a pair of runs.
We touched on Arquette and Turley above. But, Arquette finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored, including the game-winning run, while Turley was 2-for-5 with the team’s only extra-base hit, the game-winning RBI double coming in the bottom of the ninth inning. He finished with two RBI.
Those two weren’t alone in starring for Oregon State, as DH Tyce Peterson and 2B AJ Singer each had a pair of singles in four at-bats, with Singer scoring one of the team’s runs, too.
Coastal Carolina has that look of a team capable of getting to Omaha and stunning the college baseball world, similar to 2016 when it claimed its first national championship in a wild and unexpected run in Omaha.
While CCU looked really good against Arizona, Oregon State has two future Major Leaguers in the middle of its lineup with Arquette and Turley, but its far more than a two-horse lineup. The Beavers are deep, and while the Chants haven’t lost a game since April 22, rattling off 24 victories in a row, the Beavers are a strong play as short ‘dogs in the night cap. We’ll take the Under in this game, too.
Picks: Oregon State Beavers Moneyline (+105) & Under 9.5 Total Runs (-125)
