Happy New Year, all! This is where the college basketball season takes off, as we are officially in the year of March Madness. I hope that successfully betting on college basketball was part of your New Year’s resolution because I will be providing successful plays up until the end of the season. It’s a slow slate today, but I am sure I can still find you some winners. Remember to shop around for the best odds. Especially for lower-tier games, you can find multiple value points depending on the books you bet at.

Top College Basketball Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Monday (1/9)

Oral Roberts at New Mexico

To highlight the Monday slate, you have two top-100 KenPom-ranked teams going at it at The Pit in Albuquerque. Both teams rank in the top 50 in the pace of play, with Oral Roberts coming in a 35th and New Mexico ranking 10th. This is going to be a fast-paced game with some fireworks.

With a high pace of play, that usually means high variability, but both teams are pretty consistent. New Mexico is coming off two straight losses after starting the year 14-2, and they are due for a big bounce back at home. Oral Roberts is led by the Cinderella star, Max Abmas, who has led this program to a 19th-ranked offense in DI.

Oral Roberts can shoot the lights out, ranking 24th from beyond the arc. Over 41 percent of their shots come from three-land, the sixth highest in the nation. I expect this game to come down to the wire, but with the pace of play, solid offenses, and because it’s simply more fun, the over is the play here.

Play: OVER 161.5 points

Colgate at Army

You know it’s a slow day when Colgate vs. Army is the second-best game on the slate. But here we are. Colgate is also a team that shoots many threes, scoring at a 42.5 percent clip, the best shooting percentage from deep in the nation.

Colgate is better than Army in many ways, but both have equally sub-par defenses, with neither ranking in the top 250 in defensive efficiency. Army reps a dynamic offense that spreads out their scoring and limits the offensive rebound and second-chance opportunities.

Colgate is the better team, but 8.5 points is a lot. With Colgate’s lacking interior defense – 310th two-point defense in the nation – I expect Army to keep it close in West Point.

Play: Army +8.0

Other Plays:

  • Morgan State -8.5
  • Alcorn -6.5
