College Football: 2019 Heisman Trophy Sports Betting Odds (Updated)

We are standing on the doorstep of the College Football season with Week 0 within eyeshot. Normally I am kind of lukewarm to Week 0 but this season we actually get a game with real stakes. The Miami Hurricanes take on in-state rival Florida, which is an amazing appetizer for the full slate of games.

But we are not here to talk about the ‘Canes and Gators. We are here to talk about the 2019 Heisman Trophy. Back in early May, I gave out a few names to take a look at. I hope you jumped on board because these lines are all shorter and some of the value is gone.

At the time I liked Jake Fromm at 18/1, Justin Herbert at 22/1, and Sam Ehlinger at 23/1. All of these lines were courtesy of Bovada. If you take a peek at their lines as of now, Fromm is now 14/1, Herbert is 20/1 and Ehlinger is all the way down to 15/1.

Now I’m not saying I don’t like these lines anymore but with the odds shrinking, especially in Ehlinger’s case, a lot of the value is gone and the appeal has diminished.

If I’m heading to the window today to bet on the 2019 Heisman Trophy, my betting card will be tweaked. I’m avoiding all but one player in the 15/1 range or lower. Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence could easily take home the award but at shorter than +300 the reward is not worth the risk.

I have a ton of questions about Ohio State this season so Justin Fields is out. Is Oklahoma really getting three straight Heisman Trophies? Doubtful, especially from a QB in Jalen Hurts who likely won’t amass the gaudy totals of Baker Mayfield or Kyler Murray. So who is my target from this range?

Jake Fromm (QB – Georgia): 14/1

This play for me is all about them Dawgs! I have high expectations for Georgia this season and think they have a serious shot at toppling both Alabama and Clemson.

If they do, there is a very good chance Fromm is in New York accepting the Heisman Trophy as well. Getting Fromm at +1400 instead of the +650 Georgia is listed at is value.

As I mentioned in my post back in May, this award typically goes to a QB. All but three of the award winners since 2000 have played the position. Fromm has the talent and weapons to put a massive season and bring multiple trophies to Athens this season.

Justin Herbert (QB – Oregon): 20/1

Of all the odds I liked backed in May, Herbert’s odds have changed the least. At 20/1 he provides a ton of potential. Herbert will have the chance to pile up eye-popping numbers in Eugene with the high-octane Duck’s offense.

Oregon has a schedule that will allow voters across the country to get eye-balls on him. The game against Auburn will be key to getting the Heisman campaign rolling down the tracks. If Herbert performs well and the Ducks get the W, his odds will become dramatically shorter. It will also put them on track to potentially win the Pac-12 and make a College Football Playoff appearance.

Want to go all-in on the Ducks? They are currently +850 to make the College Football Playoff and 60/1 to win the National Championship. If you want to roll with me, get in the “Flying V” and let’s fly!

Sean Clifford (QB- Penn State) – 66/1

Looking to take a real deep shot? Sean Clifford may be the name to target. Now, I’m not saying to unload the savings account, but throwing a few shekels on this could be fun. At 66/1 the odds are long but the potential is there. If you saw my Over/Under article you know I love the upside of Penn State this year.

The Nittany Lions have a chance to be really good. I think they’re a team that makes serious noise this season. If you want to go all-in on Penn State you can take them at 11/1 to win the Big 10 and anywhere from 66/1-to-100/1 to win the National Championship. You could throw a couple of bucks on a few different things and be stacking cash come seasons end.

Bovada does not offer a line on Clifford, but thanks to Betting Pros, there are a few places you can find a line to place your bet.
