College Football Parlay Bets for Week 9

After a winning Saturday of epic proportions two weeks ago, we cooled off a bit with our College Football parlays in Week 8. Despite failing to hit, last week served as a good learning experience on multiple fronts. Most notably, of course, was getting the first look at the teams from the Big Ten and Mountain West conferences. Both leagues are featured prominently among this week’s College Football parlay game selections as we look to get back to our winning ways.

Week 9 College Football Parlay No. 1

There’s nothing fancy about either of our two featured parlays this week. Both are simply a combination of my favorite bets from each of the game selection categories above. The first includes a heavy SEC favorite, a short Big Ten home favorite, a narrow road underdog in Conference USA, and the over in what figures to be a shootout in the Sun Belt. The parlay offers healthy payout odds of +744 at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Iowa (-2.5 at -112)

Iowa is coming off of a disappointing season-opening defeat to Purdue, which was complicated by the fact that the Boilermakers were without head coach Jeff Brohm and top wide receiver Rondale Moore. With Northwestern coming off a convincing win over Maryland, this game screams buy-low on the Hawkeyes. It’s hard to trust many coaches more than Kirk Ferentz to right the ship, and Iowa has had a track record of performing well as a favorite in games with short spreads. Prior to last week’s loss at Purdue, Iowa had won 13 straight games as a favorite of 6 points or fewer. With a win necessary to keep pace in the Big Ten West, look for the Hawkeyes to bounce back.

Troy at Arkansas State (Over 71.5 at -114)

This Sun Belt matchup promises plenty of points from both sides. Both Troy and Arkansas State feature prolific offenses, and each average over 31 points per game on the season. What’s more, both defenses aren’t particularly impressive, either, with Troy surrendering 28.8 points per game and Arkansas State giving up a whopping 43.4. The Red Wolves have failed to hold a Sun Belt opponent below 45 points all season to date, and both teams surrendered comparable high point totals to a common opponent in Georgia State. Sure, 71.5 is no small total number, but there’s no possible way for you to take the under here.

Florida (-500)

After enduring an outbreak of COVID-19 within the locker room following their first loss of the season, Florida will look to get right in more ways than one against Missouri this week. The Tigers come into this game on a two-game winning streak. They won both a shootout against LSU and a defensive battle against Kentucky. Coach Eli Drinkwitz has already shown he has the ability to get the most out of the talent he has, but the Gators should prove to be far too much for Missouri. The Swamp will be rocking, and Kyle Trask should have no trouble picking apart a vulnerable Mizzou defense.

Rice (-104)

Congratulations to the Rice Owls football program on accomplishing the first ever quadruple-doink missed field goal I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, the kick failed to bounce through the uprights after hitting every part of the goalposts and the crossbar twice, and Rice dropped their season-opener to Middle Tennessee. Still searching for their first win, the Owls take on a Southern Mississippi team that is in a state of chaos, to say the least. The Golden Eagles saw a second coach walk out on them this past week when interim Scotty Walden left to take over the lead position at FCS-level Austin Peay. With the Golden Eagles also dealing with a rash of positive COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, I’m comfortable backing the Owls to win outright here.

Week 9 College Football Parlay No. 2

Our second featured parlay this week features the best bet runners-up in each of the game selection categories. Together, a two-touchdown underdog, a Conference USA under, a big SEC favorite, and a C-USA moneyline dog combine for payout odds of +962.

UNLV (+14 at -110)

The annual Battle for Nevada and the coveted Fremont Cannon is set to take place late-night this Saturday, as Nevada and UNLV will do battle. This year’s edition will take place on what is technically neutral ground, as the game will be played inside the new home of the Las Vegas Raiders, Allegiant Stadium. Nevada squeaked past Wyoming in their season-opener last week while UNLV got trounced on the road by San Diego State. The Rebels only scored 6 points, but the Aztecs notably have one of the best defenses in the conference, if not the country. Marcus Arroyo should be able to get this offense on track against the Wolfpack this week. Outright winners of two-straight in what is always a hard-fought rivalry, UNLV as two-touchdown underdogs is just too good to pass up.

UAB at Louisiana Tech (Under 47.5 at -113)

Betting totals under in College Football is nerve-wracking, to say the least. While there’s an outside chance that this UAB-Louisiana Tech game could wind up on next week’s “Bad Beats” with Scott Van Pelt and Stanford Steve, all the numbers and research I have suggest that this total is too high. UAB brings a strong defense to the table, with the 24 points they allowed to a good Louisiana team being the highest total they’ve surrendered in their last four games. The Blazers also have some questions offensively, particularly at quarterback, where Bryson Lucero has been inconsistent in relief of the injured Tyler Johnston. Louisiana Tech’s offense has been sputtering in the last several games as well. I see this game landing somewhere in the 23-20 range.

Ole Miss (-910)

Ole Miss is the second team of Rebels to be a part of this College Football parlay. Lane Kiffin’s unit has dropped three straight games. The defense remains one of the worst units in the country, and Matt Campbell has not been sharp under center for Ole Miss in the last two games. We saw the Rebels incorporate running quarterback John Rhys Plumlee into the game plan last week, and it seems safe to expect a combination of the two signal-callers once again at Vanderbilt this week. The Commodores are simply a mess. Even if they can score against the Ole Miss defense, I don’t see them slowing down the Rebels’ attack enough to have any chance at an upset.

UTSA (+165)

Despite continuing to play above expectations, UTSA continues to be disrespected by the betting market. Coach Jeff Traylor has done a phenomenal job with the program in his first year on the job. He has navigated injuries at quarterback, dealt with COVID-19 cases, and handled a lack of secondary depth to keep the Roadrunners competitive each week. Frank Harris was the third UTSA quarterback to draw a start last week against Louisiana Tech. His 189-yard, two-interception performance wasn’t great, but he doesn’t have to be other-worldly when he has star tailback Sincere McCormick lining up with him in the backfield. It won’t be pretty, but the Roadrunners are once again a live dog in Boca Raton this Saturday against an FAU team that has only been able to play two games thus far.
