College Football Power Rankings: Week 10 (2019)

There’s a new number one atop the AP Top 25 poll. LSU took over the top spot after a home win over Auburn, but three other programs also received first-place votes. Over on the Coaches side, the same four teams also received nods for the top ranking with Alabama remaining in first. Let’s take a look at how the power rankings see the Top 25 programs in the land with nine weeks in the books.

25) Navy Midshipmen, 6-1
Since dropping a road game at Memphis, Navy has bounced back to win four in a row. The team hits the road for its next two: at UConn on Friday night and at Notre Dame on November 16.

24) Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 6-1
The Demon Deacons bounced back from a home loss to Louisville with a 2-point decision over visiting Florida State. NC State and Virginia Tech are up next, followed by a showdown with Clemson.

23) Kansas State Wildcats, 5-2
The Wildcats pulled out the biggest stunner of Week 9 with a 7-point home win over Oklahoma as massive 23.5-point underdogs. The club visits rival Kansas on Saturday.

22) Memphis Tigers, 7-1
The Tigers are back in the AP Top 25 in the 22nd spot this week. The team’s lone loss was a 2-point road defeat at Temple. A big test is on tap for Saturday as undefeated SMU pays a visit.

21) Boise State Broncos, 6-1
The Broncos had the week off after an upset loss to BYU. Blemish aside, the team remains a big favorite to take down the Mountain West. They return to action on Saturday with a trip to San Jose State.

20) Appalachian State Mountaineers, 7-0
The Mountaineers undefeated run continued with a 30-3 road shellacking of South Alabama for their sixth double-digit win of the year. The team welcomes Georgia Southern to campus on Thursday night.

19) Wisconsin Badgers, 6-2
A few weeks ago, the Badgers were looking like a real threat in the Big Ten. Two losses later, the team is searching for answers. They have some time to mull things over during a bye week.

18) Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 5-2
The Fighting Irish traveled to Michigan on Saturday, but they wound up not putting up much of a fight in a 45-14 defeat. A return trip to the College Football Playoffs is now off of the table.

17) Iowa Hawkeyes, 6-2
The Hawkeyes have bounced back from consecutive losses with two straight wins, including Saturday’s road shutout over Northwestern. They’re off this week in advance of a date with Wisconsin.

16) Cincinnati Bearcats, 6-1
The Bearcats have won five in a row, four of which have been by 10 points or more. They’re in first place in the AAC East and control their own destiny with five games left on the docket.

15) Michigan Wolverines, 6-2
The Wolverines finally responded in a big spot this week. Saturday’s victory over visiting Notre Dame was of the dominant variety. We’ll see if they can avoid a letdown in a trip to Maryland.

14) Auburn Tigers, 6-2
The Tigers defense did its part in a 3-point loss to LSU, but the offense was out of sync all day. The club will be home for its final four games, a span that includes visits from Georgia and Alabama.

13) Baylor Bears, 7-0
An undefeated team is atop the Big 12 standings, and it’s not Oklahoma. The Bears were off this week, and they return to action on Thursday night when they play host to West Virginia.

12) SMU Mustangs, 8-0
The Mustangs kept their perfect record intact with a three-point road win over Houston. A tough test looms with a trip to Memphis, a game that will help decide the AAC West division.

11) Minnesota Golden Gophers, 8-0
After pounding visiting Maryland, the record stands at 8-0 for the Golden Gophers. The team has a brutal final stretch of games with three contests versus currently ranked squads still to come.

10) Utah Utes, 7-1
The Utes picked up a big 35-0 win over visiting Cal on Saturday to push the mark to 7-1. The team faces a test this week with a trip to Washington, but the rest of the schedule doesn’t look too daunting.

9) Oregon Ducks, 7-1
The Ducks got a scare from visiting Washington State, but they managed to escape with a 2-point win. A tricky road date with USC is on tap for Saturday night.

8) Oklahoma Sooners, 7-1
The Sooners’ playoff hopes took a big hit with Saturday’s loss to Kansas State. The club is off this week before getting back in action with a visit from Iowa State.

7) Georgia Bulldogs, 6-1
The SEC East will be decided this weekend when the Bulldogs square off with Florida. The winner’s hope for a playoff berth will remain alive, while the loser will be looking at 2019 as a disappointment.

6) Florida Gators, 7-1
Following the date with Georgia, the remaining schedule isn’t too harrowing for the Gators. If they can escape with a win on Saturday, the program could be a CFP contender.

5) Penn State Nittany Lions, 8-0
A big road win over Michigan State sent the Nittany Lions into a bye week on a high note. The team returns to action on November 9 with a road date at undefeated Minnesota.

4) LSU Tigers, 8-0
Voters are all over the Tigers, as the team is ranked 1st in the AP poll and 2nd on the Coaches side. We’re impressed with LSU as well, but we’ll wait and see how a November 9 road trip to Alabama goes.

3) Ohio State Buckeyes, 8-0
The Buckeyes are undefeated and have won each of their games by double-digits. This club is loaded on both sides of the ball and a very real threat for the national title.

2) Clemson Tigers, 8-0
While other top teams prepare for challenges from big rivals, Clemson will spend this weekend at home facing Wofford. A late-season squash match doesn’t exactly help the strength of schedule case.

1) Alabama Crimson Tide, 8-0
The Crimson Tide are off in advance of the showdown with LSU. Tua Tagovailoa is hoping to return for that tilt, but we’ll have to wait and see. The winner is in the driver’s seat for the top spot in the CFP.

The Next 5

San Diego State Aztecs, UCF Knights, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Indiana Hoosiers, Texas A&M Aggies
San Diego State is 25th in the latest AP Poll and just on the outside looking in on the Coaches side. Of the remaining four, Louisiana Tech has ripped off seven wins in a row, while UCF and Indiana have picked up some impressive wins recently.
