College Football Power Rankings: Week 3 (2019)
A stellar Week 2 of NCAAF is in the books. Two showdowns of ranked squads provided us with some additional clarity on the lay of the land. A number of top programs continue to impress, while others are looking like they have some work to do to keep pace.

Here are our rankings of the top 25 teams in the nation as we look ahead to Week 3.
25) Mississippi State Bulldogs, 2-0
The Bulldogs have opened up the year with a pair of double-digit wins. On Saturday, it was a 31-15 home victory over Southern Mississippi despite losing starting QB Tommy Stevens to injury.
24) Oklahoma State Cowboys, 2-0
The Cowboys have outscored their two opponents by a combined 108-50. The competition level begins to get tougher with a road date at Tulsa next up on the docket.
23) USC Trojans, 2-0
Freshman Kedon Slovis was thrust into the starting QB role for Saturday’s home tilt with Stanford. He passed the test with flying colors, throwing for 377 yards and three scores in a win.
22) Boise State Broncos, 2-0
The Broncos followed up an impressive season-opening road win with a seven-point home victory over Marshall. The club is home for three of the next four, all of which look winnable.
21) Maryland Terrapins, 2-0
The Terrapins hammered visiting Syracuse on Saturday to the tune of 63-20. Over its two victories, the team has dropped a ridiculous 142 points while allowing a total of 20.
20) Washington State Cougars, 2-0
The Cougars are another offense which is off to a prolific start. In two victories, the team has outscored opponents 117-24. Next up is a Friday night road date with Houston.
19) Michigan State Spartans, 2-0
The defense remains stout for the Spartans as they have allowed a total of 24 points through two games. Arizona State comes to town this week for a late-afternoon affair.
18) Iowa Hawkeyes, 2-0
The Hawkeyes have only allowed 14 total points thus far. On Saturday, they picked up a 30-0 home victory over Rutgers. A tougher matchup awaits with a road date at Iowa State.
17) UCF Knights, 2-0
The Knights haven’t had much in the way of competition as of yet, winning the first two games by a combined 110-14. The team faces a stiffer test this week when they play host to Stanford.
16) Oregon Ducks, 1-1
The Ducks responded to the Week 1 collapse versus Auburn with a 77-6 home victory over Nevada. It should be more of the same this week when they welcome Montana to campus.
15) Texas A&M Aggies, 1-1
The Aggies offense couldn’t get much going versus Clemson, but the defense did a pretty good job holding the Tigers in check. The team will host Lamar on Saturday night.
14) Texas Longhorns, 1-1
The Longhorns made a game of it with visiting LSU, but they just didn’t have enough to seal the deal in a 45-38 loss. A neutral site game with Rice is up next.
13) Penn State Nittany Lions, 2-0
Buffalo came to play on Saturday and put up a good fight in the beginning, but the Nittany Lions took control and cruised to a 45-13 win. Pittsburgh comes to town on Saturday afternoon.
12) Utah Utes, 2-0
Two double-digit wins in the bag, the Utes should be able to run the record to 3-0 versus visiting Idaho State. Looming after that is a challenging road matchup with USC.
11) Wisconsin Badgers, 2-0
Jonathan Taylor is running over everything, and the Badgers have yet to allow a point this season. Wisconsin gets this week off before a home showdown with Michigan on September 21.
10) Michigan Wolverines, 2-0
Speaking of the Wolverines, they got all they could handle from visiting Army before escaping with an overtime win. Michigan has some work to do on offense before visiting the Badgers.
9) Auburn Tigers, 2-0
The come from behind thriller over Oregon was followed by a 24-6 home victory over Tulane. The team welcomes Kent State on Saturday before heading to Texas A&M the following week.
8) Florida Gators, 2-0
After struggling with Miami in the opener, the Gators had an easier time this week with a 45-0 home thrashing of UT Martin. The team takes a trip to Kentucky this week.
7) Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 1-0
The Fighting Irish had the weekend off after opening with an 18-point road win over Louisville. They kick off the home schedule this week versus New Mexico.
6) Ohio State Buckeyes, 2-0
The Buckeyes dominated visiting Cincinnati on Saturday, walking off the field with a 42-0 win. A road date with Indiana is on tap for this week with a Noon kickoff.
5) Oklahoma Sooners, 2-0
Jalen Hurts has fit in just fine with the Sooners with nine total TDs thus far. The offense remains as prolific as ever with 119 points scored through two games.
4) LSU Tigers, 2-0
If Joe Burrow keeps this up, the Heisman conversation will be seriously crowded. He has thrown nine TDs versus one pick thus far and impressed mightily in the win over Texas.
3) Georgia Bulldogs, 2-0
The Bulldogs have yet to be challenged, winning their two games by a combined 93-23. Another easy one is up next versus visiting Arkansas State, but Notre Dame comes to town the following week.
2) Alabama Crimson Tide, 2-0
The Crimson Tide have rolled to an easy 2-0 start, dropping 104 points while allowing just 13. A trip to South Carolina is up next, followed by a home date with Southern Mississippi.
1) Clemson Tigers, 2-0
The Tigers have a dominant win over Georgia Tech under their belts, as well as a victory over Texas A&M that was a bit more challenging. Next up, the team heads to Syracuse for a primetime showdown.
The Next Five
Washington Huskies, Virginia Cavaliers, Iowa State Cyclones, Cal Bears, North Carolina Tar Heels
The Huskies dropped a 20-19 home decision to Cal in a game impacted by weather, while the other four teams check-in at 2-0. All five programs are in action this week, so we’ll see if any of them can make a move up the charts.
