25) Arizona State Sun Devils, 4-1
The Sun Devils knocked Cal from the ranks of the unbeaten on Saturday. This is a stout defensive squad that flies somewhat under the radar. They should be a big factor in the wide-open Pac-12 race.

24) Michigan State Spartans, 4-1
The Spartans have bounced back from an upset home loss to Arizona State with a pair of wins over Big Ten foes. A huge test looms on Saturday as they travel to Ohio State.

23) Oklahoma State Cowboys, 4-1
The Cowboys’ lone loss of the year was a 6-point road defeat at Texas. Outside of that, Oklahoma State has handled business with four double-digit wins.

22) Memphis Tigers, 4-0
The Tigers are on the outside looking in for the latest AP Top 25 poll, but the Coaches have shown some love and ranked them at #23. The team has outscored opponents 147-63 thus far.

21) SMU Mustangs, 5-0
The Mustangs are a ranked team for the first time since 1986. The team has scored 37+ points in each of its five wins, the most impressive of which was a road win over a tough TCU squad.

20) Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 5-0
The Demon Deacons remain perfect on the year after a 3-point road win over Boston College on Saturday. The team has a showdown with Clemson on November 16 which suddenly looks interesting.

19) Michigan Wolverines, 3-1
The Wolverines got destroyed on the road by Wisconsin two weeks ago, but they bounced back with a 52-0 win over visiting Rutgers. Saturday brings a visit from a strong Iowa team.

18) UCF Knights, 4-1
The Knights’ dreams of a playoff berth are gone after a road loss to Pittsburgh, but the team put that in the rearview mirror for a big win over UConn. Next up is a road date at Cincinnati.

17) Utah Utes, 4-1
The Utes were upset by USC two weeks ago, but they bounced back by handling business at home over Washington State. The team has as good a shot as any in the parity-driven Pac-12.

16) Washington Huskies, 4-1
The Huskies’ lone blemish is a 1-point home defeat to Cal. On Saturday, they bested visiting USC by two touchdowns. The team heads to Stanford this week for a date with the Cardinal.

15) Boise State Broncos, 4-0
The top Group of Five program in the nation has racked up two straight double-digit wins. A trip to UNLV this weekend is followed by interesting tilts with Hawaii and BYU.

14) Iowa Hawkeyes, 4-0
The Hawkeyes destroyed visiting Middle Tennessee to the tune of 48-3 on Saturday. It’s Big Ten play from here on out, starting with a trip to Michigan this week.

13) Penn State Nittany Lions, 4-0
On Friday night, the Nittany Lions took a trip to Maryland and decimated the Terrapins by a score of 59-0. They’ll be home this weekend to welcome Purdue to town.

12) Oregon Ducks, 3-1
The Ducks have won three in a row since their Week 1 neutral-site loss to Auburn. They’re home for the next two weeks as Cal and Colorado pay visits.

11) Texas Longhorns, 3-1
The Longhorns responded to their tough loss to LSU with two straight wins. West Virginia is on tap this week, followed by a highly-anticipated showdown with Oklahoma.

10) Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 3-1
The Fighting Irish returned home this week after a tough road loss to Georgia. They handled business versus visiting Virginia by a score of 35-20. Bowling Green comes to town on Saturday.

9) Florida Gators, 5-0
The Gators are undefeated, but they have a brutal two-game stretch up next against top SEC foes. Auburn comes to town this week, followed by a trip to LSU

8) Wisconsin Badgers, 4-0
One week after destroying Michigan, the Badgers had a tougher than expected time with Northwestern. Kent State visits campus this weekend as massive underdogs.

7) Auburn Tigers, 5-0
The Tigers continue to impress. On Saturday night, they dominated visiting Mississippi State by a score of 56-23. A challenging road date with Florida is up next.

6) LSU Tigers, 4-0
The undefeated Tigers play host to Utah State this weekend. That’s followed by a final seven-game stretch versus fellow SEC teams, starting with a visit from Florida on October 12.

5) Oklahoma Sooners, 4-0
The Sooners have dropped at least 48 points in each of their victories. Jalen Hurts has accounted for 17 total touchdowns and is one of the crystal clear favorites for the Heisman Trophy.

4) Georgia Bulldogs, 4-0
The Bulldogs got the weekend off after handling business at home over Notre Dame. A trip to Tennessee is up next, followed by a visit from South Carolina.

3) Ohio State Buckeyes, 5-0
As we enter the month of October, a case can be made for Ohio State being the most impressive team in the nation. On Saturday night, the Buckeyes went to Nebraska and walked out with 48-7 win.

2) Clemson Tigers, 5-0
The Tigers went to North Carolina on Saturday and found themselves in a dog fight, escaping with a 1-point win. They get the week to hit the reset button before welcoming Florida State on October 12.

1) Alabama Crimson Tide, 5-0
The Crimson Tide have taken over the top spot in the AP Top 25 poll. Five double-digit wins can have that effect. The club is off this weekend before traveling to Texas A&M the following week.

The Next 5

Virginia Cavaliers, Texas A&M Aggies, California Bears, Baylor Bears, Appalachian State Mountaineers
The Cavaliers put up a fight versus Notre Dame, but the undefeated run is over. The Aggies are a talented group, but they’re having trouble getting over the hump of a challenging schedule. Both sets of Bears are lurking and waiting for others to stumble, while the Mountaineers are undefeated and are looking like the top squad in the Sun Belt.
