College Football Power Rankings: Week 9 (2019)
Voters in the major polls remain split on the top program in the nation after eight weeks of NCAAF regular-season action. For both the AP and Coaches polls, four different programs have received first-place votes.
The top six teams in both polls are the same, albeit with some disagreement on how the squads stack up. As we get set for a Week 9 which includes a number of ranked-on-ranked matchups, let’s take a look at our current power rankings for the Top 25 teams in the land.

25) Arizona State Sun Devils, 5-2
The Sun Devils had a chance to make up some ground in the Pac-12 South, but they couldn’t seal the deal in a 21-3 road loss to Utah. The club travels to UCLA this week.
24) Iowa Hawkeyes, 5-2
The Hawkeyes two losses have come by a total of 12 points – seven at Michigan and five at home versus Penn State. The team remains a factor in how the Big Ten West will shake out.
23) Michigan Wolverines, 5-2
On a positive note, the Wolverines didn’t wilt under the pressure of a road trip to Penn State, falling by a score of 28-21. However, that’s now two losses for a program that had big ambitions entering 2019.
22) Texas Longhorns, 5-2
The Longhorns managed to survive a visit from Kansas with a wild 50-48 win. The program stands at 15th in both the AP and Coaches polls. We’ll see how they do this week with a trip to TCU.
21) Appalachian State Mountaineers, 6-0
The Mountaineers kept the record perfect with a 52-7 obliteration of visiting UL Monroe on Saturday. The club will be on the road for three of its next four, starting with a visit to South Alabama.
20) Memphis Tigers, 6-1
The Tigers remain on the outside looking in at the AP poll, but the coaches have them ranked 25th. Outside of a 2-point road loss to a tough Temple team, five of the six wins have been by double digits.
19) Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 6-1
After suffering an upset at the hands of Louisville, the Demon Deacons got back on track with a 2-point home win over Florida State on Saturday. The team is off this week in advance of a visit from NC State.
18) Boise State Broncos, 6-1
The Broncos fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a road loss at BYU. The team enters a bye week as no longer the top Group of Five team in the land, but they remain the favorite for a Mountain West crown.
17) Cincinnati Bearcats, 6-1
The Bearcats have now won five in a row since an early season drubbing at the hands of Ohio State. The team also has a bye this week and will get back in action next Saturday with a trip to East Carolina.
16) Wisconsin Badgers, 6-1
The Badgers were the victims of one of the week’s most stunning defeats with a 1-point road loss to Illinois. A trip to Ohio State this week has lost some luster as a result.
15) Minnesota Golden Gophers, 7-0
The Wisconsin loss makes the Big Ten West even more interesting. The Golden Gophers remain perfect on the year after handling Rutgers with a trip to Maryland up next.
14) SMU Mustangs, 7-0
The Mustangs picked up a 45-21 home victory over Temple to remain perfect on the year. The team has impressed mightily this year, but a tough stretch with three of four on the road is upcoming.
13) Baylor Bears, 7-0
An 18-point road victory over Oklahoma State is the latest pelt on the wall for the undefeated Bears. The team gets some time off before welcoming West Virginia on Halloween night.
12) Utah Utes, 6-1
Since falling by seven points on the road at USC, the Utes have won three in a row by double digits. They’re the team to beat in the Pac-12 South with a visit from Cal up next.
11) Oregon Ducks, 6-1
The Ducks are comfortably in the driver’s seat for the Pac-12 North after Saturday’s road win over Washington. A visit from Washington State is on tap for this weekend.
10) Georgia Bulldogs, 6-1
The Bulldogs rebounded from the stunning loss to South Carolina with a shutout victory over Kentucky. The team gets some time off before a showdown with Florida to likely decide the SEC East.
9) Auburn Tigers, 6-1
The Tigers went to Arkansas and crushed the Razorbacks to the tune of 51-10. The team faces a tall task this week with a trip to LSU, while games with Georgia and Alabama remain.
8) Florida Gators, 7-1
The Gators rebounded from the road loss at LSU with a 38-27 win in a trip to South Carolina. The team is off this week in advance of a date with Georgia on November 2.
7) Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 5-1
The Fighting Irish had last week off and have a number of winnable games on the remaining schedule. However, the sledding is tough this week with a trip to Michigan on Saturday.
6) Penn State Nittany Lions, 7-0
The Nittany Lions took down visiting Michigan to remain perfect on the season. The club will be on the road for three of its next four, starting with a trip to Michigan State.
5) Oklahoma Sooners, 7-0
Texas made it a little interesting last week, but the Sooners have yet to be truly tested in 2019. The latest victim was a West Virginia team which suffered a 52-14 road shelling.
4) LSU Tigers, 7-0
As the AP voters see it, LSU is the number two program in the nation. The power rankings are tapping the brakes with dates versus Auburn and Alabama coming up next.
3) Ohio State Buckeyes, 7-0
Last Friday night, the Buckeyes went to Northwestern and clobbered the Wildcats by a score of 52-3. Wisconsin comes to town this week, followed by a visit from Maryland.
2) Clemson Tigers, 7-0
Since the 1-point scare at North Carolina, the Tigers have won two straight by double digits, dropping 45 points in both victories. Boston College pays a visit to Death Valley on Saturday.
1) Alabama Crimson Tide, 7-0
Tua Tagovailoa is going to miss some time with a dreaded high ankle sprain. The Crimson Tide host Arkansas this week followed by a bye. A date with LSU looms on November 9.
The Next 5
Navy Midshipmen, San Diego State Aztecs, Iowa State Cyclones, Virginia Cavaliers, Pittsburgh Panthers
Navy steamrolled USF on Saturday by a score of 35-3 to roll the record to 5-1. The lone loss came to Memphis, but they remain on the outside looking in at both polls. Virginia has the second-most votes on the outside of the AP Top 25, while Iowa State is the top choice of the also-rans on the Coaches side.
