College Football Week 7 Odds, Picks & Prediction: Navy vs. SMU

Despite leading the American Athletic Conference in total yards per game at 500.2, SMU’s offensive success has not translated to wins on the field. Coming into this game 2-3 (0-1 in AAC play), the Mustangs have been burned by a defense that has given up 41.5 points per game over their past two.

New head coach Rhett Lashlee has been outgunned in each of their three losses, especially in the half-time adjustment department. Taking a 13-10 lead into the half last week against UCF, SMU gave up 31 in the second before getting routed.

As for the visiting Navy, three AAC games are already under their belt, going 2-1 over that span including a 53-21 lashing of Tulsa last week. The 53 points on the day matched their total combined points over their prior four games combined.

In this game, I like for SMU’s defense to rise to the occasion and build on some of the successes they had in the first half last week on the way to comfortably defeating Navy.

Pick: SMU -12.5
