Colorado Buffaloes vs. Arizona State Sun Devils Odds & Game Pick (2021)

Few could’ve guessed after three weeks of play as PAC-12 conference play began, the South would be as wide open as it is. With all teams except for Arizona being within a half-game of each other, the Buffs and Sun Devils come into conference play with a wide-open slate and anything being possible.

As both look to rebound from what were bad losses last week, let’s take a closer look at where value remains as kickoff approaches.

Overview

For the Buffaloes, a gritty Week 2 performance against Texas A&M, covering as 17-point dogs at home, had many believing this team had the moxie to compete for the South this season and was better than expected. Unfortunately, that got brought back down to earth last week, losing 0-30 at home to Minnesota and coming up short in the net yardage battle by nearly 400 yards.

Actually finishing with -10 net rushing yards, this Buffs offense was putrid throughout the day as freshman quarterback Drew Carter replaced starting freshman Brendon Lewis. Both struggled mightily.

For the Sun Devils, the most talented team in recent memory has also turned into the most undisciplined, racking up 120+ yards in penalties last week vs. BYU in addition to four fumbles. The penalties follow a theme for this Sun Devils program, which has averaged 12 penalties and 106.3 yards per game through their first three.

If this team has any chance of competing in the South or elsewhere, sophomore quarterback Jayden Daniels needs to improve. Through three games he’s thrown for just 572 yards, and a TD to INT ratio of 2:3.

Trends

  • The home team in Buffaloes/Sun devils is 6-1 ATS in L7
  • The Over is 5-1 in Colorado’s L5 as an underdog

Bottom Line

The oddsmakers and bettors have largely agreed on this one, as both the line and total have just moved a half point each since opening up on Sunday evening. While the Buffs came out flat last week vs. Minnesota, this is still a team that took Texas A&M, who many consider a CFP contender, down to the wire losing by just three points.

I also have seen nothing from ASU to indicate they can pull away vs. anyone.

Pick: Buffaloes +14.5
