Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Rams Odds & Game Pick (2020)

When the Houston Texans kicked off against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night, one of the sure to be most memorable NFL seasons of our lifetime got underway. While there won’t be fans in the majority of stadiums to start out the season, most teams are taking a “wait and see” approach and nothing has been ruled out, in any capacity, in the NFL 2020 season.

While Sunday plays host to a handful of strong out of the gate matchups, Sunday Night Football starts with two teams looking to get back to NFC glory amid a host of internal changes.

Let’s take a closer look at the first weekend primetime game of the season.

Overview

The (newly) Mike McCarthy-led Dallas Cowboys enter the 2020 NFL season with as much, if not more talent that made them the #1 offensive team in football last season. With over 431 yards per game, 20 ahead of second-place Baltimore, this Cowboy’s offense should only go up with first-round pick WR CeeDee Lamb coming into compliment an already stacked receiving core.

At the running back position, Zeke Elliot comes into this season fully healthy, with a chip on his shoulder looking to prove he’s still one of the top three running back’s in the league. Zeke has a line returning that should help him should do just that, along with a quarterback in Dak Prescott who ranked in the top five last season in yards (4,902), touchdowns (30), and QBR (71.9).

Coming in with a reported price tag north of $5 billion, Sunday’s atmosphere isn’t quite what the Rams had in mind for the opening night of their new home at Sofi Stadium. This roster certainly can’t be either.

After losing their top running back (Gurley) and wide receiver (Cooks) this offseason, fourth-year head coach Sean McVay had to then release four defensive starters to get his team under the cap. Throw two new coordinators on both sides of the ball, and the 2020 Los Angeles Rams look poised to continue their downward trajectory from their Super Bowl appearance just two seasons ago.

  • The Rams are 0-7-1 ATS in their last eight as a home underdog
  • The Cowboys are 4-1 ATS in their last five games on turf
  • The Over is 6-1 in the Cowboys last five games as a road favorite

Ram’s Total Points Under 25
An already solid Cowboy’s defense was even more bolstered this offseason in the addition of DT’s Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe, as well as S Ha Ha Clinton Dix. Pair that with the fact Goff and McVay will largely be forming offensive chemistry on the fly with the rest of their offense, and I see this Ram’s offense struggling to move the ball in this one

Bottom Line

This line continues to bob up and down around Cowboys -3, but I think we see it get closer to four by kickoff. The usual juices of starting off a season at home in primetime with a brand new stadium will, no matter what any of these guys say, be lessened in an empty stadium with fake crowd noise.

With this and the Cowboy’s improving in almost every sense, including in the coaching box, and I like them to run away with this one as the second half kick gets underway.

Pick: Cowboys -2.5 & Under 51.5
