Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Jets NFL Sports Betting Guide

So, the Dallas Cowboys aren’t the elite team in the NFC we thought they were, right?

After a perfect 3-0 start, Dallas has hit a wall with back-to-back losses to the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers. Their “much-improved” offense under “genius” Kellen Moore has reverted back to its old ways, struggling mightily in the last two weeks. Can they get back on track against the Jets in Sam Darnold’s return?

Overview

The bottom line for the Cowboys heading into Week 6 is that the offense needs to be a lot better on a more consistent basis. With Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, Randall Cobb, Jason Witten, and one of the most complete offensive lines in the NFL, the results need to be better. Dallas was missing its starting tackles for the loss to Green Bay. Still, there was absolutely no reason for that game to get as out of hand as it did before the Cowboys rallied to cut the final deficit to 10. Prescott is tied for the NFL-lead with 11 touchdown passes and ranks fourth in passing yards. Still, it feels like much of that was compiled against the Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, and New York Giants as he’s struggled in the last two games.

Meanwhile, the Jets are trying to hold things together in the locker room in time for Darnold to make his return. With teammates getting into it following a brutal start that was ultimately sparked by the absence of their franchise quarterback (due to mono), these next 12 weeks will be extremely important for setting a foundation for moving forward. New York has been outscored by an average of 15.7 points so far this season. Darnold will be back this week, but will the Jets defense be any better? They’re still without C.J. Mosely and have given up an average of 28.0 points per game over their last three. Darnold should bring some balance back to the team, but this defense has to get better as well or the Cowboys will again look like the Cowboys from Weeks 1-to-3.

Trends

  • Cowboys are 4-1 ATS in last 5 road games vs. Jets
  • Over is 6-2 in last 8 Dallas games
  • Jets are 4-16 SU in last 20 games
  • New York is 2-10 SU in last 12 vs. NFC opponents

Bottom Line

Losing to New Orleans on the road wasn’t expected, but it was understandable. Getting blown out by Green Bay at home was not. Jason Garrett better get a win here or he’s going to have Jerry Jones breathing down his neck.

The Cowboys have one of the most difficult schedules in the NFL the rest of the way, so they absolutely need to win this game, and it sets up well for them. The Jets have just six sacks on the year. If they’re not going to get to Prescott, they’re not winning this game.

Sure, Darnold is back, but he’s not exactly the answer to all of their problems. They still don’t have a ton of playmakers in the passing game and they have all sorts of questions on defense. Darnold will have his moments but he’ll be rusty, and the Jets will get blown out.
