Dana White's Contender Series Picks: Week 10

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Middleweight: Douglas da Lapa vs. Davi Cabral

The second fight of the night is a middleweight bout between Douglas da Lapa and Davi Cabral. Both fighters are undefeated Brazilians, but have different styles. Da Lapa is a tall striker, while Cabral is an undersized grappler.

In his career, da Lapa is 6-0 with five knockouts and one decision victory. He most recently fought in Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) in May and knocked out his opponent in the second round.

Cabral is a 7-0 professional, with only one amateur bout in 2023. He fought in July on Peak Fighting 53 and won a split decision. He has four knockouts, two submissions and one decision victory.

Cabral has strong low kicks, which should be a factor in this fight. The height advantage goes to da Lapa (six inches), and it showed during weigh-ins. He is a wild striker, with power and athleticism. He is not as technical, but uses his length to hit his opponents from range.

I expect Cabral to get this fight to the mat as da Lapa swings wildly. Utilizing low kicks too much, especially early in the fight, could be a problem if da Lapa counters. He should wear him down and start to throw low kicks later in the fight.

Cabral has the technical ability to stand with da Lapa and can use it to set up a takedown. Cabral can use da Lapa's wild tendencies to his advantage and win this fight on the mat.

Featherweight: Ilias Bulaid vs. Erick Visconde

If you have been following along every week, you will recognize this fight from Week 8. Ilias Bulaid pulled out with an illness, and it worked out for both fighters. Bulaid and Erick Visconde are in the main event and are closing out this season of DWCS. Unfortunately for the fighters, they have to cut weight again. The pick remains the same, however.

Bulaid is a lot bigger and is dealing with an illness. This second weight cut should be difficult for him. While it is also difficult for Visconde, it should be slightly easier because he is healthy.

Bulaid throws a lot of kicks. He can mix things up and is much more willing to compete on the mat than most former kickboxers. With that said, Visconde will test Bulaid’s grappling ability.

Visconde is a well-rounded fighter with a lot of power and spinning attacks. He has extensive experience in the octagon, with five fights in the LFA. He is trending in the right direction and has strong momentum.

Bulaid’s illness is worrisome. He is not 100%, but cannot afford to miss out on this opportunity. He is a dangerous striker, but we do not know his skills on the mat. Visconde should take him to the mat and find out.
