Denmark vs. Czech Republic: Euro 2020 Odds & Game Pick

Two teams that perhaps were not given their due heading into the tournament still find themselves alive in the quarterfinal round. Surviving the round of 16 was impressive enough, but counting one of these teams as a semifinal participant is sure to rock the nation of whoever advances. What is for certain is that we will have some exciting football (soccer) from two of the most surprising teams to advance to the quarterfinal round.

Despite two losses in the group stage, Denmark advanced due to goal differential. Drawing Wales proved to be a gift from the matchmaking gods as Denmark powered the ball home four times, with Kasper Dolberg finding the net twice. Tottenham product Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been the engine in the middle of the field for the Danish and will need to be at his creative best to help Denmark get past the Czech national team.

Despite just three total goals in the group stage, the Czech Republic national team found a way to get past a strong Dutch national team. They get a rather easy draw in the quarter-final round against a Denmark team that suffered two losses in the group stage. Patrick Schlick has been all class and finds himself in the running for the golden boot. The Czech will need every bit of his magic to advance past Denmark.

Game Pick

Denmark are expected to win based on odds and talent, but their uninspired group stage play makes this contest one with value on both sides. Regulation betting makes zero sense with the odds relatively close, so advancement is where the value is. The team that can find the net more often is obviously going to win. However, it is hard to argue that the Czech team does not have just as many, if not more, threatening attackers. The poor showings we saw from these two teams in the group stage should be thrown out as upsets abound this tournament, and teams always play harder in the knockout rounds. Denmark has the more balanced team but may need another offensive outburst to advance. The Czech should find the net at least once, but it is hard to go against the Danes stronger staring XI. If they play to their potential, and their win against Wales suggests they will, they should meet England in the semifinal round.

Pick: Denmark to advance (-182)
