The Vikings are coming off a huge road victory on Sunday Night Football last week, defeating the Cowboys by a score of 28-24. That improved their overall record to 7-3 with a betting record of 6-4 ATS. The Vikings return home this week after two straight games on the road. It should be noted that Minnesota is 4-0 at home this season and 3-1 ATS after narrowly failing to cover a 16.5-point spread against Washington in Week 8.

Meanwhile, the Broncos are having problems this season, checking in at 3-6 overall with a 5-4 record against the spread. It should be noted that Denver has covered in four of their last five contests. The Broncos have also gone under the total in six of nine games this season. Denver is coming off a bye after defeating the Browns 24-19 in Week 9.

Overview

Some may suggest that this is a trap game for the Vikings. As mentioned earlier, they are coming off a huge 28-24 victory at Dallas, and they’ll play the Seahawks next week. There’s a chance Minnesota is sleeping on the Broncos, who have had two weeks to get ready for this matchup. The extra preparation time could come in handy for Denver, as they are breaking in Brandon Allen at quarterback. He was 12-of-20 for 193 yards and two touchdowns in the Broncos’ Week 9 victory, and his effectiveness will go a long way in deciding the outcome of Sunday’s meeting with the Vikings. After all, Minnesota’s defense is much more vulnerable through the air than it is against the run.

Trends

  • The Broncos are 4-1 ATS in their last five games.
  • The Vikings are 3-1 ATS at home this season.
  • The Vikings are 6-2 ATS in their last eight November games.
  • The under is 7-1-1 in the Broncos’ last nine road games.
  • The under is 4-1 in the Vikings’ last five against a team with a losing record.

Prop Bets

Courtland Sutton OVER 73 Receiving Yards
Admittedly, this prop is a little worrisome with Brandon Allen playing quarterback on the road. However, Sutton should continue to see plenty of targets with Emmanuel Sanders traded out of town. Game flow suggests the Broncos will pass more than usual in this game, and that’s the best way to move the ball against the Vikings. Sutton has amassed 72 or more yards in four of his last five games, and I believe he can make it happen on Sunday. It helps that this game will be played in a dome, removing any weather-related issues.

Bottom Line

I’m buying into the trap-game atmosphere for Minnesota, as this sleepy NFC vs. AFC matchup is wedged between the Cowboys and Seahawks on their schedule. The Broncos are fresh off a bye, too, so that feeds into the cause. The Vikings should win at home, but I’m anticipating them enacting a run-heavy approach to keep the Broncos at an arms distance (not blowing them out). The Vikings’ secondary is vulnerable enough to allow a backdoor cover as well.
