Bryson DeChambeau 2022 Masters Preview
Bryson DeChambeau is confident in his ability to score at Augusta National, home of The Masters. “I’m looking at it as a par 67 for me, because I can reach all the par-5s in two, no problem,†he once said of the par-72 course.
Well, the PGA Tour’s longest hitter didn’t exactly play it as a par 67 last year. After opening with a 76 that included only one birdie, DeChambeau did indeed shoot a 67 on Friday, but then he closed with a pair of 75s on the weekend. Indeed, DeChambeau is still trying to find his footing at the iconic Georgia course. His best finish in five Masters starts is a tie for 21st in 2016.
But DeChambeau’s “par 67†comment wasn’t pure narcissism. With his length, he’s capable of reaching every par-5 in the course in two shots, and he can reach some of them with a short iron or wedge. He stacked up seven birdies during his second-round 67 last year, and it’s not inconceivable that DeChambeau could add a few more birdies to that total if conditions are right and he has a good day. Here’s hoping the stars are aligned for him on Thursday.
