English Premier League (EPL): Week 4 Preview

Week 3 ended with some results that were expected. Liverpool won comfortably over Arsenal 3-1, but there were a lot of upsets. Crystal Palace scored an injury-time winner to record their first victory at Old Trafford since 1989. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s record signing Joelinton scored his first goal for the club, allowing his team to beat Tottenham.

Any given week in the Premier League can be tough to predict, especially in the opening weeks of the season as new signings find their feet. However, this week has some great games to consider.

To help you navigate the week, I’ve looked at each of the games and given my choice selection for the game. I’ve taken the odds from DraftKings’ Sportsbook, but shop around to get the best odds for your selections! The indicated times are the local UK time kickoffs.

Saturday Games

Southampton vs. Manchester United (Early Kick-Off)
Southampton has proved to be a tough team to overcome, even though the squad has only scored three points after their win against Brighton. Southampton held Liverpool, who possess one of the league’s most potent attacks, to just two goals. Manchester United will be looking to bounce back after a shock defeat, but their attack has looked shaky recently, and they could struggle to even score in the match. Given the struggles Manchester United have had, I would look for the value in backing the home team.

Market Choice: Draw No Bet Southampton +180

Chelsea vs. Sheffield United
Chelsea is the clear selection in this game. Frank Lampard’s team impressed in a goal-scoring frenzy against Norwich, with the young duo of Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham impressing. Sheffield United have had a mixed start to the season, but they are yet to have a matchup against a team of Chelsea’s quality. Looking at the markets for this game, I’d look for a combination of Chelsea winning and another prop to give maximum value.

Market Choice: Chelsea to win by 2 +320

Crystal Palace vs. Aston Villa
Crystal Palace left Old Trafford with an unexpected but deserved victory. Aston Villa also upset the odds last week when they beat Everton at home. Both teams are effective, but at home, I would expect Gary Cahill to lead Palace’s defense, and I expect Wilfried Zaha to cause Villa’s defense to struggle due to his pace.

Market Choice: Crystal Palace to win by 1 +295

Leicester City vs. AFC Bournemouth
Leicester is flying high in the league, with five points from three games. James Maddison is coming into his own and has really developed a relationship with striker Jamie Vardy. Maddison has provided four assists to Vardy since moving to Leicester, and no other teammate has been assisted more than once. Bournemouth may cause some trouble, but ultimately Leicester’s duo will overcome them.

Market Choice: James Maddison To Give An Assist +275

Manchester City vs. Brighton & Hove Albion
Manchester City playing at home against Brighton means that there will be plenty of goals scored. Pep Guardiola’s team have scored at least two goals in every game this season, and they only dropped points against Tottenham Hotspur when they were held to a draw. This should be a comfortable victory for the home team.

Market Choice: Manchester City -4.75 +550 or Raheem Sterling to score at least 2 +320

West Ham United vs. Norwich City
West Ham comes into this game, looking to improve on their last performance at home where they heavily lost to Manchester City in the season opener. Norwich has played some fantastic football since being promoted and should cause the home team some difficulty.

Market Choice: Tie and both teams to score +325

Burnley vs. Liverpool (Late Kick-Off)
Liverpool is almost a certainty to win the game. So in this game, there is more value in exploring other markets that take that into account. Liverpool allows for more creativity in the markets to get the best odds for that outcome. The attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane are always a threat to score multiple goals, but there have been signs of improvement on their defense too.

Market Choice: Away Team to win to Nil +110

Sunday Games

Everton vs. Wolverhampton Wolves
Wolverhampton is yet to win a game this season, but they impressed in the previous campaign with their play. Wolverhampton is battling on a new front with their qualification to Europe last season. Everton has only scored one goal this season, and the team has disappointed in their performances too. Looking at the squads, unless there is a major injury I would expect Wolves to leave Goodison Park with the victory

Market Choice: Wolverhampton Wolves +250

Arsenal vs. Tottenham Hotspur
The North London derby is always a cagey affair. Both teams need a result since they both lost their last game. Arsenal’s new signings are looking more settled, with Ceballos looking comfortable in midfield. However, Tottenham struggled in their last matchup and there is uncertainty over the future of star player Christian Eriksen. Both teams have the ability to score, but ultimately I would expect them to cancel each other out.

Market Choice: Draw with Goals +320
