English Premier League Sports Betting Picks of the Week: 7/11 – 7/13

As the calendar turns to July and the summer of COVID forges on, soccer leagues across the globe are rounding into shape. In the English Premier League (EPL), just inside of two weeks remains in the regular season as teams jockey for position for the Champions League (and against relegation).

I’m starting to get used to the empty stadiums, and the pumped-in crowd noises definitely boost the at-home experience. Going along with the new normal, as the re-start continues, the quality of play has been increasing each week.

Let’s take a look at two matches I have my eye on this weekend.

Sheffield United (+550) vs. Chelsea (-180)

Saturday, 12:30 PM EST

With just five matches left in the EPL season, Chelsea finds themselves where they usually do at this point: near the top of the table. Liverpool has already claimed the regular season prize, and Chelsea sits just one point ahead of Leicester as they jockey for Champions League positioning. Led by emerging superstar Christian Pulisic, Chelsea has been one of the hottest teams since the restart. They have won four of five while averaging over two goals a game.

For Sheffield United, a UEFA Cup bid is within range, but a loss here would all but send them home for the season. Since beginning the restart 0-1-2, Sheffield has now won two of three, and they look poised for another solid performance in this one.

I expect a hot start from Sheffield, as their backs are against the wall. Chelsea’s torrid pace should cool off as well.

Pick: First Half – Sheffield United +1 (-165)

Tottenham (+165) vs. Arsenal (+165)

Sunday, 11:30 AM EST

For two teams that had Champions League aspirations, it’s been a rocky restart.

For Arsenal, two opening match losses set the tone. To their credit they have since rebounded by winning three of four, collecting points in all four matches since. The last time we saw them out resulted in a 1-1 draw against Leicester, a win they desperately needed to gain traction on the top five of the table.

On Tottenham’s side, inconsistency has been the name of the game since matches got restarted in early June. At 2-2-1 over their last five, the Spurs have struggled to score points.

In this one, I look for two teams with little to lose to finally start finding the back of the net early and often.

Pick: OVER 2.5 Goals (-122)
