English Premier League (EPL): Week 3 Preview

Last weekend saw some upsets with Norwich City beating Newcastle United and some controversy with VAR playing a part in the match between champions Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. This weekend there are some great games – including the late kickoff between Liverpool and Arsenal in the Saturday evening slot.

To help you navigate this week lets take a look at the games being played, and my selection of markets for each game. I’ve taken the odds from DraftKings sportsbook, but shop around to get the best odds for your selections! The indicated times are the local UK time kickoffs.

Friday Game

Aston Villa vs. Everton

Aston Villa has lost both of their encounters so far this season, while Everton has four points from their two opening games. Everton has beaten Aston Villa in five of their last six encounters against Aston Villa, and with Everton’s attacking options they should have enough to overcome Aston Villa on Friday.

Market Choice: Everton +115

Saturday Games (Main Slate)

Norwich City vs. Chelsea (Early Kick-Off)

Chelsea has to be the option here. Frank Lampard hasn’t won a game since being installed as manager of Chelsea this summer, but Norwich has only just entered the league and were easily dispatched by Liverpool in the opener. Norwich might cause Chelsea some problems, and with the confidence that they picked up by beating Newcastle, a Draw No Bet market is a great option

Market Choice: Draw No Bet Chelsea +275

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Southampton

Brighton has started the season well, taking four points in their opening two games, while Southampton is yet to pick up a single point. However, Southampton has been victorious over Brighton in the last two games they have played. Given the form coming into the game, however, it’s hard to look past a home victory for Brighton.

Market Choice: Game Southampton +145

Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace is yet to score a goal in the league this season but has only conceded one goal. Manchester United took apart Chelsea in the first game of the season winning 4-0. Marcus Rashford is a striker who looks to be in great form, and if a chance falls to him he should be able to finish it, which should be enough to beat the visitors at Old Trafford.

Market Choice: Game Manchester United -278

Sheffield United vs. Leicester City

Leicester City is yet to win a game this season, but having rescued a point against Chelsea they will be full of confidence. Striker Jamie Vardy has an incredible amount of pace that should cause the backline of Sheffield United problems, while James Maddison has come into his own as a playmaker.

Market Choice: Game Leicester City +112

Watford vs. West Ham

West Ham has only scored one point this season, after being beaten in the season opener by Manchester City. West Ham are a decent side though and have an outside chance of beating Watford who are at home. However, the chance of this game ending a draw is too high to pass up

Market Choice: Draw +240

Liverpool vs. Arsenal

Liverpool is clearly the pick here, they may be missing their first-choice goalkeeper, but backup Adrian is more than capable to step in and keep Arsenal’s inconsistent attack from scoring. The attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane should cause Arsenal problems and score goals.

Market Choice: Liverpool -200

Sunday Games

AFC Bournemouth vs. Manchester City

Manchester City is the clear run and away option in this game. Both teams come into this game with four points, but Manchester City has an amazing squad of talent that should be able to overcome Bournemouth. Raheem Sterling has now scored four goals in two games, and the constant threat of Sergio Aguero should mean Manchester City should win the game by a large margin.

Market Choice: Manchester City -500

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Newcastle United

Tottenham managed something that not many teams will manage to do this season, scoring two goals against Manchester City and rescue a point. Newcastle was soundly beaten by Norwich City last weekend, and are unlikely to be able to disturb Tottenham at home. Meanwhile, Harry Kane should cause Newcastle’s defense problems all day.

Market Choice: Tottenham -455

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Burnley

Burnley was unlucky to leave the game with Arsenal without a point, and are always solid in defense. Wolves were able to get away with a point after Paul Pogba was unable to score a late penalty and favorites to win at home. Given the odds for the other results, however, I would opt for Burnley to win the game away from home this weekend. Burnley have always been able to score a goal from set-piece plays and so I fancy them to continue that trend on the road

Market Choice: Burnley +400
