FCS Football Betting Weekly Odds and Best Bet Game Pick: Championship Game (2021)

It’s been just inside of a month since the 2021 Spring FCS bracket got underway, and it will all come to a head this Saturday as the FCS Championship game in Frisco, TX, finishes an unforgettable 2021 season. With kickoff slated for 2 PM EST, the top seed South Dakota State Jackrabbits take on the #2 Sam Houston State Bearkats as both teams go for their first FCS title in program history.

In what will be the first-ever meeting between the schools, the Bearkats are coming off a hard-fought battle against FCS main-stay James Madison University while the Jackrabbits have mostly cruised to this point.

Will the underdogs be able to pull off one final upset? Let’s take a closer look.

Sam Houston State vs. South Dokota State (-4.5, O/U 47.5)

Coming into the playoff bracket as the top seed, the Jackrabbits have shown the country why. Really only being tested by Southern Illinois in the quarters, the Jackrabbits won their other two games by scores of 31-3 and 33-3 on their way to the finals.

One big aspect of their success thus far has been the massive success of their run game. Averaging over 230 yards per game on the ground, Pierre Strong and Isiah Davis are complemented by quarterback Mark Gronkowski, one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. None of this, of course, could be accomplished without the stellar play of the line in front of them led by RT Garret Greenfield.

Led by defensive ends Kay and Jevon Leon and tackles Joseph Wallace, Trace Mascorro, and Scean Mustin, Sam Houston State has one of the best defensive front sevens in the country, and it’s meant the world. With opponents averaging just over 2 yards per rush attempt, the Bearkat’s smothering brand of defense has wreaked havoc in backfields all season long.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Bearkat’s have one of the best weapons in the country in WR/return man Jequez Ezzard, averaging 121 all-purpose yards per game. Ezzard is complimented on the offensive side of the ball by quarterback Eric Schmid who, while he has struggled downfield at times, can take off from the backfield with the best of them.

While Sam Houston has been a great story to this point in the season, I think the Jackrabbits experience wins out in this one. With this season being their 9th straight appearance in the FCS playoffs and having, in my opinion, the big quarterback advantage, I’m laying the points and riding with the Jackrabbits one final time this spring.

Pick: South Dakota State -4.5
