FCS Football Betting: Weekly Odds and Game Picks: Week 10 (2021)

The final week of the 2021 spring FCS regular season is finally upon us as the playoff bracket is slated to be solidified Sunday evening. Before then, 38 teams will play one final game with some more important than others as teams make one final case to be included in the postseason.

While some teams are already in and just jockeying for position, other teams are looking to play spoiler versus in conference foes who surely won’t soon forget it.

Let’s take a closer look at two such games with playoff implications.

Saturday

The Citadel vs. VMI (+5.5, 50.5)
One of the biggest stories out of the FCS this spring has been VMI’s rise to relevancy as they look to clinch their first Southern Conference title since 1977 with a win this week. Though they lost their starting quarterback in March to an ACL tear, back up Seth Morgan has stepped in adequately, completing 61 of 80 (76.3%) passes while accounting for 808 yards of offense.

On the other side, The Citadel has followed up a 0-8 start with two straight victories over Wofford and Furman, potentially catching fire at the wrong time for the home Keydets. Running a triple-option behind dual-threat QB Jaylan Adams, VMI should have their hands full in this one.

Thinking about this one in terms of two teams who know each other as well as anyone in the FCS (75 games played), I expect the  “Military Classic of the South” to stay well below 50 points.

Pick: Under 50.5

Richmond vs. James Madison (-12.5, 50.5)
The #1 team in the country in JMU will host the #11 ranked Richmond Spiders as they look to secure the CAA South Division as well as the #1 seed in the postseason. Averaging 259 yards on the ground per game behind senior backs Percy Agyei-Obese and Jawon Hamilton, JMU will attempt to exploit a Spider’s defense allowing just 55 yards per game on the ground.

In addition to a stout defense, JMU will also have to contain one of the best quarterbacks in the CAA in the Spider’s Joe Mancuso who is averaging 250.7 yards of offense per game.

While in the end, I think the Dukes get the win, the Spiders know they might miss the postseason entirely with a loss, and I think we see one of their best efforts of the season in this one.

Pick: Richmond +12.5
