FCS Football Betting: Weekly Odds and Game Picks: Week 6 (2021)

As March rounds into form and the sporting world’s attention at large turns to college hoops, a ton of value remains in the week-to-week grind that is FCS betting. With COVID-cancellations cutting some of last week’s games short, there were still some key headlines to note.

Most notably, the North Dakota Fighting Hawks continue their assault on the standings, moving to #2 in the rankings following yet another big win, this time over Western Illinois. Two of the other teams in the top four, James Madison and North Dakota State, head into this week with potential quarterback changes for the first time this season.

With these headlines in mind, let’s take a closer look at where the money is headed in Week 6.

Saturday

North Dakota vs. North Dakota State (-3.5, O/U 36.5)
There’s a quarterback competition brewing for the Bison North Dakota State. During last week’s 21-13 win over Illinois State, starter Zeb Noland was benched in favor of true freshman Cam Miller for most of the second half. With Miller, the Bison add a ground threat that they lack with the more senior Noland, something they could need down the stretch in an increasingly competitive FCS.

For the in-state little brother Fighting Hawks, this spring has already been nothing short of incredible. Entering this week as the #2 seed with a perfect record 4-0, North Dakota, led by redshirt freshman QB Tommy Schuster has been a methodical machine, blowing out most of their opponents.

Seeking their first 5-0 start in program history (at Division 1), I like the Fighting Hawks to stake their claim as the new king of North Dakota Football as tension swirls in the NDSU quarterback room.

Pick: North Dakota +3.5

Cal Poly vs. UC Davis (-15.5, O/U 54.5)
We head to the Big Sky for the first time this season to look at two teams with relatively small sample sizes after the league got a late start.

For #21 UC Davis, a close loss to #2 Weber State last week was enough to move them up the rankings, as they showed an ability to do some real damage in this conference. Led by tailback Ulonzo Gilliam Jr., the junior has 300 total yards and three touchdowns in his two career performances against this Cal Poly team. Expect a healthy dose on Saturday.

For the Cal Poly Mustangs, new head coach Beau Baldwin has gotten no favors in scheduling as he faces another uphill battle in this one after losing to Southern Utah last week. In what was their first game of the season, the Mustangs did turn it on late to outscore their opponent 17-3 in the second half.

In this one, I like for the rust to continue to fall off Cal Poly, as they take advantage of what has become an inflated line in this one.

Pick: Cal Poly +15.5
