FedEx St. Jude Championship PGA Tour Betting Odds, Picks & Guide (2022)

The 2021-22 PGA Tour regular season has ended following an exciting week at the Wyndham Championship, as the FedEx St. Jude Championship and the first of three playoff weeks are finally upon us. Hosted this year at TPC Southwind in Memphis, TN, the classic, also known as The Northern Trust, has rotated in recent years.

With as stacked as a field as they come, 2,000 FedEx Cup points are on the line, critical for positioning at the Tour Championship in just two weeks. Let’s take a closer look at Southwind, this week’s field of 125, and how things might shake out in the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Classic.

Course Preview: TPC Southwind

Located just southeast of Memphis, TPC Southwind will play host to a playoff event for the first time, but that doesn’t mean the players aren’t familiar with it, as it’s been in the regular rotation for years now. Elite ball-strikers will succeed here, as we’ve seen in the past, as there are plenty of water hazards to consume even the slightest misses.

Coming in at 7,243 yards, the par 70 plays just about to the average of other courses on Tour, made longer in 2020’s renovation, which also expanded some bunkers. Lined with Bermuda rough and greens, players who excel on the surface will find success here as well.

It’s also worth noting that with the 4th smallest greens on Tour, approach this week will be critical.

Outright Betting Picks

Cameron Young – (+2800 on DraftKings Sportsbook

I’ll typically stay away from golfers making their debuts on a given course, but Cameron Young is going to be the exception to that rule. The odds on favorite for Rookie of the Year, Young has made 15 of 22 cuts this year, including 10 top 25s, having done literally everything except winning.

Yet.

Since the Masters in April, Young has three finishes of T2 and two finishes of T3, one of each coming at majors. Coming into this week after taking the last week off, Young finished runner-up in consecutive tournaments (The Open & Rocket Mortgage).

As you would expect, the metrics are there, as Young currently tanks inside the top 10 on Tour in SG: Off-the-Tee, Driving Distance, and Birdie Average. More so a matter of if, not when, Young finds the winner’s podium; I see no better place than a course at TPC Southwind that should play right to his strong suits.
