Florida Gulf Coast vs. Cleveland State
The Eagles (19-14) and Vikings (22-12) meet in the second CBI semifinal game, with a tip time of approximately 9 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
FGCU dispatched Army 68-65 on Monday night in Daytona, but it didn’t come anywhere close to covering as a 10.5-point favorite as the Under (154.5) cashed. Before that, FGCU’s most recent game was on March 3 in the first round of the ASUN Tournament, losing 71-65 to Queens College (N.C.).
Speaking of Queens, the Vikings showed them the door Monday night, 88-73, keeping FGCU from getting a chance at revenge. The Vikings are 2-1 SU/ATS in three postseason games, with the loss coming in the second game of the Horizon League Tournament against Youngstown State, 56-54.
Cleveland State torched Queens with 61% (37-of-61) from the field, while misfiring just once on nine free-throw attempts. The Vikings were a plus-10 in the rebounding department, while they were a plus-2 in the turnover category. Tahj Staveskie had a game-high 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting, while Dylan Arnett added 20 points on 10-of-12 from the field, with six boards, three assists, and two steals.
Based on recent common opponents, you have to back the Vikings. While FGCU is playing in its home state, Daytona Beach is very far from campus in Southwest Florida. Plus, being in the Sunshine State didn’t help Jacksonville against Incarnate Word in this tournament.
