French Grand Prix Formula 1: Betting Odds, Picks & Preview (2022)

Max Verstappen hasn’t won a competition in more than a month, his most recent triumph came in the Canadian Grand Prix, yet he still leads the drivers’ standings by 38 points. Ahead of this weekend’s French Grand Prix, Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc both won well-deserved victories over the past two weeks, as they both charge up the standings, as well does Mercedes in the constructors’

Leclerc’s victory in Austria saw him pass Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez for second place in the standings, as he looks to resume the torrid pace he started the season with when he won two of the season’s first three races.

As for this week’s French GP, last year’s top two, Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen, have each claimed a victory in the race since it was reinstated to the Formula 1 calendar in 2018, with Hamilton winning in 18′ and 19′, and Verstappen getting it done last season.

Despite Mercedes’ mediocre performance in 2022, team president Toto Wolff suggested that Hamilton will continue to improve, as the team has found some things in his car over the past few weeks. The results would prove that true, as the all-time great has now found the podium in three straight events.

Though Red Bull has seemingly fallen off in recent weeks, it is worth noting they’ve still found the podium in every race since week 2. Let’s take a closer look at who might find it Sunday at the Circuit Paul Ricard.

Best Bet for the French GP

Podium Finish: Lewis Hamilton | -105 at FanDuel Sportsbook

I’ve been on Hamilton to find the podium over the past few weeks, and I’m heading right back to the well for this one as the 7-time world champion is more than overdue for an outright win. Having not won since the 2021 Saudia Arabian GP, this is one of the longest droughts of Hamilton’s illustrious career, and there are few tracks he’s had more success on with such limited history as the Paul Ricard.

Mercedes team president noted this week of “new developments” in Hamilton’s Mercedes W13, and I think we see such that in the form of his first win of the season. The insane pace that Red Bull and Ferrari are keeping can’t be ignored, however, as Verstappen and Leclerc are racing some of the best laps of their career.
