Overview

In what was a make-or-break year for seventh-year Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, he’s decidedly made it. After picking up the long-coveted win over Ohio State (42-27) Thanksgiving weekend, the Wolverines dropped another 42 points as they destroyed Iowa in the BIG 10 title game.

While their offense has been impressive to start the season, their defense is really what got them here. Through 12 regular-season games, the Wolverines allowed 16.1 points and 315.8 yards per game, good enough for #4 and #12 in the country, respectively. Led by Heisman runner-up Aidan Hutchinson, this Wolverines defense is only bested by one unit in the country: Georgia.

Finishing the regular season allowing a more than impressive 9.5 points per game, this defense does everything well, ranking inside the top four in both rushing and passing yards allowed per game. Their opponent in this one, the Wolverines offense led by Cade McNamara, is solid but tends to rely on its top-10 rushing attack, which means a lot of burned clock to get this unit going.

Trends

  • Under is 6-1 in Bulldogs L7 bowl games in the role of favorite
  • Bulldogs are 1-4 ATS in L5 following a loss
  • Wolverines 5-0 ATS in L5 games

Bottom Line

After getting embarrassed by Alabama in the SEC Championship game, expect a re-focused and motivated Georgia defense in this one. In addition to the rushing-focused attack of the Wolverines, the Bulldogs also tend to lean on the rush as they come into this one #30 in the country, running for 194.8 yards per game.

Expect a low-scoring slugfest in this one, with the recent performances of both leading to a higher than usual posted total in this one.

Pick: Under 45
