Georgia State Panthers vs. Auburn Tigers Odds & Game Pick (2021)

Auburn is coming off a disappointing loss in a close road game at Penn State. Despite that, the Tigers only dropped one spot in the AP poll, and they now rank 23rd. Auburn has an excellent opportunity to bounce back against Georgia State of the Sun Belt Conference. The Tigers stand in as 27 point favorites for this lopsided matchup. Auburn played one other team outside the Power 5 conferences this season (Akron), and they ended up winning that game 60-10 in Week 1. The Tigers (and their bettors) hope for similar success on Saturday.

Georgia State hasn’t enjoyed too much success this season. They lost to Army 10-43 in Week 1 before getting trounced by a score of 17-59 at North Carolina the following week. The Panthers earned their first win of the season last Saturday, beating Charlotte 20-9. However, that momentum could be short-lived while facing a legitimate SEC team on the road in Week 4.

Let’s cover all the betting angles of this Saturday afternoon showdown.

Overview

The jury is still out on Auburn QB Bo Nix. He didn’t exactly pass the test last week at Penn State, but his Week 4 matchup vs. Georgia State will be a different story. Nix had no problem padding the box score against Akron and Alabama State earlier this season. The same should hold true while facing this Sun Belt team. Tank Bigsby could be in for a huge day, as Auburn has an overwhelming line of scrimmage advantage over Georgia State.

Will Georgia State carry any momentum into this game after getting a taste of victory last week? Does that even matter? Probably not, as you can’t exactly compare the competition when looking at Charlotte and Auburn. The main question revolves around whether or not the Tigers will have a hangover after an emotional loss at Penn State. Remember, Auburn opens SEC play against LSU next week, so this is somewhat of a sandwich game. Perhaps Georgia State’s opportunity to keep things competitive lies within that.

Trends

  • Georgia State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games.
  • The total is 4-1 to OVER in Georgia State’s last five games.
  • The total is 4-2 to OVER in Auburn’s last six games.

Bottom Line

As mentioned earlier, Auburn has a massive talent advantage, especially when it comes to the line of scrimmage. Motivated or not, the Tigers should be able to roll over a suspect Georgia State defense.

However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Auburn took their foot off the gas pedal in the second half. That could open the door for a few scores from the Panthers. My gut tells me to lay the points with Auburn, but I’m worried about a backdoor cover. Instead, I believe going over the total makes for a better move. This way, I’m embracing the Tigers pulling their starters and letting Georgia State put together some scoring drives in the second half.

The Pick: OVER 57
