Gervonta Davis vs. Rolando Romero: Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Prediction (2022)

It’s time for fight night once again in New York City, as the Barclays Center in Brooklyn will play host to four fights on Saturday night on Showtime PPV. Following the co-main event between middleweights Erislandy Lara and Spike O’Sullivan, Gervonta Davis -1100 will look to defend his WBA light belt against Rolando Romero +650.

Both undefeated, who will finally lose their “0”? Let’s take a closer look.

Gervonta Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) vs. Rolando Romero (14-0, 12 KOs)

Winning the WBA lightweight belt vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa in December 2019, Davis will be defending it in this bout for the third straight fight. His last defense, a unanimous decision win vs. Isaac Cruz in December, was one of his toughest tests to date and just the second of his career to go the distance.

Turning pro in 2013 following a 2012 National Golden Gloves championship as an amateur, Davis is widely considered one of the best prospects in the sport, and coming into this fight, is still one of its biggest draws.

Romero, the WBA interim lightweight champion, also comes into this fight having won just two fights by decision, with the rest being via KO/TKO. Winning the then-vacant title vs. Jackson Martinez via unanimous decision, Romero has fought twice since, ending both fights via TKO in the 7th round.

With just 51 professional rounds under his belt since turning professional in 2016 at just 20 years old, Romero has less than half the experience of his counterpart in this fight. Even still, Romero has quality wins in this division over the likes of Martinez and Anthony Yigit, both accomplished veteran guys in the sport.

Bottom Line

With 92.3% of his 26 professional fights coming inside the distance, “Tanks” Davis is a certified assassin and has shown his power in almost every fight he’s been in. Given the last fight we saw him in was one of his only decisions, I expect Davis to look to get his swagger back in this fight against a relatively inexperienced fighter in Romero, making the biggest walk of his career.

With legal issues pending and this the potential last time we see Davis inside a ring for some time, expect fireworks from one of the most elite boxers on the planet. Add in the fact there seems to be a genuine dislike between these two, and I expect this one to end before the final bell.

Pick: Gervonta Davis by KO/TKO, or DQ -400
