What are ‘Goal in First Ten’ Bets?

A ‘Goal in First Ten’ bet is exactly how it sounds, it is a wager on whether you think there will be a goal (or not) in the first 10 minutes of an NHL contest. I will walk through an example below.

What are “Goal in First Ten” Bets?

Let’s say the Edmonton Oilers are on the road facing the Detroit Red Wings. Now, as an avid hockey fan, you know that the Oilers are typically an offensive-minded team.

Since Edmonton is such an offensive powerhouse, you want to take the 1P Over 1.5 at -175. But then you think to yourself, “Well, Detroit’s offense is often hit-or-miss, so two goals may be a lot.”

So, you take a gander at the ‘Goal in First Ten’ market and see that the Over 0.5 is -180. You might think to yourself, “Just one goal scored in the first half of the first period is not too much to ask for, especially considering that the Oilers have scored in the ‘First Ten’ by themselves in four of their last six games.”

Transversely, an Under bettor could look at goaltenders Stuart Skinner and Ville Husso as two guys who should be able to prevent a goal through the first 10 minutes of the game. In that case, you can take the ‘Goal in First Ten’ Under 0.5 at +145.

The NRFI/YRFI market in baseball is a vastly popular one, and the ‘Goal in First Ten’ market is hockey’s version of that wager.
