How to Bet the English Premier League at a Sportsbook

What a great time to get in on betting on the English Premier League! These teams constantly compete in Europe’s top competitions and are also in dog fights consistently to show why they are the king of the Premier League.

Chelsea has represented the league in the Champions League, going on an incredible run to secure the 2021 UEFA Champion’s League title, which is the most prestigious win in European soccer. Manchester City has brought in Erling Braut Haaland, and other teams have made moves, too, in what should be a fascinating season.

There are two options in betting on the league: Futures and single games. This is unlike American sports, where the regular season is a placement tool to set up the playoffs within the same league. Instead, it means the title of England’s best soccer team is earned with each game played throughout the long season. From there, the title winner and four other teams qualify to play in the Champion’s League the following season.

Futures

The two futures bets take an entire season’s body of work to award. The first is the Outright Winner. This is self-explanatory, as whoever gets the most points over the season is crowned the league’s winner, and you cash your bet (hopefully!).

A team gains two points for winning a match, and each team gets one point if the game ends in a draw. Manchester City is the clear favorite this season at -162, followed by Liverpool at +250. These teams are far away from the rest of the teams in the league, as the next closest team in terms of odds is Tottenham Hotspur at +1400.

There is also the Golden Boot award, which is given to the player who scores the most goals, and before the start of the season, one can bet on who they think it will be. Unsurprisingly, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has the shortest odds to win, followed by Liverpool’s Mo Salah, who was a co-recipient last season. Look out for Kai Haevertz of Chelsea, as he is my sleeper in this race that is likely to be won by one of the two top dogs.

Single Games

The Premier League is an amazing league, with serious talent from top to bottom and clusters of fans that are some of the best in the world. As a result, many teams perform much more inconsistently away from home, which reflects in the lines you pay to get in on these games. You can bet 3-Way Moneyline, 2-Way Moneyline (also known as Draw No Bet, because if it ends in a draw, the bet pushes), and on the total number of goals in a game by a player or a team.

The markets get even more exotic with the number of corner kicks and win margin, etc., but I don’t think these are the best markets to enter without serious research into past trends.
