The 152nd running of the Belmont Stakes gets underway Saturday, June 20th. Typically the third Triple Crown race run each year, this year’s event will run before both the Kentucky Derby (September 5th) and the Preakness Stakes (October 3rd). The horses will also run a shorter version of the course. Instead of 1.5 miles, they’ll run just 1.125.

The unusual race will certainly be one to watch! Here’s how you can tune into the prestigious thoroughbred racing event.

How can you watch the Belmont Stakes?

Unfortunately, no fans can attend this year’s Belmont Stakes in person. You’ll have to tune in via NBC, NBCSports.com, or the NBC Sports app. The network will offer three hours of live coverage for the event, starting at 3:00 PM EST.

Where can you bet on the Belmont Stakes?

The New York Racing Association (NYRA) is the official betting provider for the 2020 Belmont Stakes. Their mobile app is available for both iOS and Android, and you can also download it here.

What are the storylines to follow?

This year marks the first time that the Belmont Stakes will be the first of the three Triple Crown races, and its 1.5-mile length had been unchanged since 1926. Only 13 thoroughbreds have ever won the American Triple Crown, and only five of those wins have come after 1950. The two most recent winners, American Pharaoh (2015) and Justify (2018), both proved that it can still be done.

It will be interesting to see if another horse can add its name to the list with the nontraditional Triple Crown format.
