Although the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the sports scene, current and former players from the NBA and WNBA will play a single-elimination HORSE tournament next week.

HORSE is the classic playground game where players must call and make their shots — and their opponents must match them. If they don’t, they’ll gain a letter of the word “HORSE.” Once they’ve failed five times, they’ve spelled the full word and lost the game.

But how will players do this despite social distancing rules? Well, the game doesn’t need to be played at the same court, so each participant can broadcast themselves from their home court setups.

You can tune in on ESPN or through the ESPN App. The tournament starts Sunday, April 12 at 7 EST, and it’ll run through Thursday, April 16.

So who’s playing? Current NBA stars Chris Paul, Zach LaVine, Trae Young, and Mike Conley, Jr are all will compete, and current WNBA star Allie Quigley will as well. NBA and WNBA retirees Chauncey Billups, Tamika Catchings, and Paul Pierce will also compete in the tournament.

As the world muddles through a pandemic, let’s give a big thanks to the professional basketball world for putting this on for the fans. Right now, what’s better than a distraction from the news?
