Both of these teams have been knocked out of playoff contention, although the Colts’ hopes were dashed much more recently. Indianapolis has lost four out of their last five games to currently own a 7-8 record. Week 17’s season finale at Jacksonville will be nothing more than a formality, as the Colts don’t have anything to gain or lose from this matchup. 

The Jaguars’ season has been over for quite some time now, losing six of their last seven games. Their defense has fallen apart down the stretch, as they are currently one of the worst teams at defending the run. That could come into play one more time, as Indianapolis likes to establish their rushing attack with Marlon Mack and company. The key to this game revolves around the Jaguars’ ability (or inability) to stop the run.

These two teams played on November 17, and the Colts (literally) ran away with a 33-13 victory. Marlon Mack posted 106 rushing yards on 14 carries with Jonathan Williams racking up 116 yards on 13 carries as well. That was one of the games that sent Jacksonville spiraling to their current 5-10 record. 

The main question of this game revolves around motivation. The Colts are disappointed after being eliminated from the playoffs, while the Jaguars have had their expectations tempered over the last few months. Will Indianapolis come out flat as a result? Can the Jaguars muster up enough energy to pull off the upset in front of their home crowd?

I’m somewhat concerned that the Colts will come out flat with nothing to play for. However, the Jaguars don’t exactly scare me despite trying to rally around the underdog mentality. Even if the Colts start slow, I believe the talent disparity will push them to the cover.
