Indianapolis Colts vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Odds and Game Pick (2020)

Things appear to be getting worse in Pittsburgh before any hope of getting better. After an 11-0 start was at times shaky at best, a three-game slide as Steeler fans fearing a first-round exit as a Wild Card team at that.

For the Colts, just the opposite is brewing as a four-game win streak has capped of six wins in seven games as they heat up just as games start to really matter.

Can the Steelers put an end to the slide and clinch a division that was not long ago theirs by a landslide? Let’s take a closer look.

Overview

You now have to go back over a month to find the last time the Steelers offense scored more than 20 points, a 27-3 win over Jacksonville on November 22nd. Losing three of four since the team’s complete lack of a running game has only been exposed more by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s inability to throw downfield.

On the defensive side of the ball, big holes in the front seven after losing linebackers Bud Dupree and Devin Bush for the season have also caught up with a still solid, but weakened defense. The Steelers will get back Vance Williams from the Reserve/COVID-19 list this week, and with him some depth they desperately need.

Coming to Pittsburgh this week is another veteran quarterback in Colts’ Philip Rivers. A win on Sunday, with a loss by Baltimore or Miami, would secure a playoff spot for the Colts with higher seeding still up for grabs heading into the final week.

While Rivers has been his solid self, the Colts have got a big boost as of late from rookie running back Jonathan Taylor who in Week 14 vs. the Raiders, ran for a career-high 150 yards. After a slow start getting accustomed to the physicality of the league, Taylor appears to be finding his groove which is a scary thought for his upcoming opponents.

Trends

  • Colts are 1-4 ATS in their last five vs. the Steelers
  • Over is 4-0 in Colts last four vs. teams with winning records
  • Steelers are 6-2 ATS in last eight vs. AFC teams

Prop Bet

Spread  / Total Points Parlay 5 – Colts (+0.5) & Under 53.5 points
While Conner might add some production out of the backfield, Roethlisberger’s inability to get the ball more than 30 yards downfield should continue to spell disaster for the Steelers. Not only do I think the Colts win outright, but I don’t see this total going higher than 45 points.

Bottom Line

Though the Steelers are expected to get back Williams and starting running back James Conner this week, tight end Eric Ebron (back), defensive end Stephon Tuitt (back), and linebackers Ola Adeniyi (shoulder) and Ulysees Gilbert III (ankle) are all on the injury list and have yet to practice this week.

Unlike the Steelers, the Colts are getting healthy at the right time of year, as all injuries reported this week are being considered precautionary or rest.

Typically, with the division title on the line at home in late December, with a healthy Roethlisberger no less, the Steelers would no doubt be a favorite in this spot. With their play as of late being some of the worst across the league, it’s hard to see them getting it together vs. a surging Colts team.

Pick: Indianapolis Colts -1.5
