For the former YouTuber turned social media phenom, Woodley marks another step in the progression of fighters he’s fought of increasing skill level each time. Starting with a fellow YouTuber in AnEsonGib, he then took out former NBA player Nate Robinson, and most recently, MMA fighter Ben Askren.
The 24-year-old Paul has jumped all the way in on professional boxing. As fans and pundits alike have agreed, a real combination of skill and freak athleticism makes him a much more legitimate boxer than originally anticipated. Oddsmakers agreed, opening Paul as the slight favorite only to see his odds balloon to the heavy favorite he is now.
By stepping into the ring at the start of the night, Woodley will have already secured likely his biggest payday to date; now to earn it. The former UFC champion who defended his belt four times, went four years (2014-2018) without a loss and was at one time one of the best MMA fighters in the world. After four losing straight fights beginning in 2019, however, Woodley was subsequently bounced from the UFC, but all things considered, has found himself in a better position than most.

Both Paul and Woodley have guaranteed knockouts ahead of this pay-per-view event. Now for a matter of either one following through. With the odds heavily favored to go the distance, Paul has yet to allow that to happen, though Woodley is the closest of the four opponents thus far in terms of not only skill but size.
With a “walk around weight†close to 200, Woodley will be the first fighter Paul doesn’t tower over physically and should provide a big challenge to the young fighter. In the end, however, I see Paul as a fighter doing this for the long haul, while Woodley likely sees a massive payday against one of the sport’s newest and most polarizing stars.
