Jermall Charlo vs. Brian Carlos Castaño: Betting Odds, Picks, Preview
Jermall Charlo (-235) will try to beat Brian Carlos Castano this weekend at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA, as the fight will be a rematch from a July 17th draw at AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX. The two light middleweights have fought no one else since their last battle, so they have been training for each other for over a year, giving this fight all the more intrigue as the opening bell approaches.
In their first fight, both fighters won one score on the scorecard, while the third scored a 114-114 draw. While the rematch was delayed due to a bicep injury to Castano, it will finally go off this Saturday with the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, The Ring, and WBO light-middleweight titles on the line.

Jermell Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KOs) vs. Brian Carlos Castaño (17-0-2, 12 KOs)
One of the biggest draws in the middleweight division, outside of a brief stint in 2018 where he lost (and then regained) the belt to Tony Harrison, Charlo has been the WBC champion for the better part of six years. The initial loss to Harrison was the only of Charlo’s dominant career, as “Iron Man†rose the ranks quickly, with more than half of his fights ending inside the distance via TKO or stoppage.
For Castano, the WBA interim light middleweight titleholder since 2016, the WBO inter-continental light-middleweight belt was picked up in early 2021, defeating Patrick Teixeira by unanimous decision just down the road from here in Indio, CA. With the win and subsequent draw vs. Charlo, his coveted “0†is still intact, as the result was the second draw of his otherwise spotless career.
Castano enters this bout under a cloud of injury, as a slight bicep tear forced him to postpone a March 19th fight date, the second of two delays.
Bottom Line
Before his draw against Castano, that’s worth noting one judge had scored 117-111, and Charlo had knocked out three straight fighters while regaining the WBC light middleweight title in the process. I see him coming in more aggressive than the first in this fight, leaving no doubt and no decisions up to the scorecard.
The clear cut more talented fighter, I think we see that on display early and often, as Charlo goes for the TKO/KO in the middle rounds after feeling out the noticeably smaller Castano.
