La Liga Betting: Weekly Odds and Game Picks: Week 3 (2021)
Week 3 of the 2021 La Liga season is officially upon us as the summer months end, and international football looks to kick into high gear this fall. While there haven’t been many surprises just yet with the usual suspects at the top, the table is still young, with more than 30 games left to be played.
One team off to a great start, Sevilla FC, takes on a league bottom feeder this week in Elche, who has lost two games by a combined one goal.

Elche vs. Sevilla, 1:30 PM EST
Yet to score a goal through two games this season, Elche will try yet again this week, coming in off a loss to La Liga champions Atletico Madrid on the road. In that match, Atletico striker Angel Correa scored his third goal of the season in the 39th minute, in an otherwise fairly even affair on paper. Despite possessing the ball 58% of the match, Elche lost the shots (4) and shots on goal (2) battle, getting doubled up on both.
Having secured a spot in this season’s league on the final day of last season, Elche gets no favors early in this one as they now head welcome in league-leading Sevilla.
For Sevilla, who finished 4th on the table last season, two games have brought two wins, as they league the lead with a goal differential of +4. Their last time out on the road at Getafe, Erik Lamela secured the win in the 3rd minute of extra time, pounding home a rebound off a break as time expired.
Sevilla dominated the game despite the dramatics, possessing the ball for 61% with 3 shots on goal (vs. Getafes 0). Though the sample size is small, Sevilla’s defense has been the story thus far, allowing just 3 shots on goal (and zero goals) as the midfield has dominated time of possession.
In this one, I look for Elche’s inability to move the ball further compounded by Sevilla’s defense and for a low-scoring game to be in order.
