With less than half the season now remaining it’s a full sprint for teams in La Liga between now and summer to jockey for their position on the table. At the top, Sevilla is doing everything it can to not allow Real Madrid to run away with it, as both teams sit a clear 10+ points ahead of third-place Real Betis.
This week, however, we look towards the middle of the pack for value in the only game of this weekend’s slate.

Elche vs. Villarreal, 8:00 AM, EST
When Villarreal heads to Elche this Sunday they’ll do so with the wind of momentum at their back having not lost since December 4th, an 0-1 defeat to Sevilla. In the five matches since, Villarreal has racked up a goal differential of +14, coming into this match with a +11 differential on the season to trail only the aforementioned two teams at the top of the table.
For the home Elche in this one, things have gotten brighter after a poor start, and they have had many wins in the past 45 days as they did the entire season prior. The last time we saw them on the pitch was their fourth win of the season, a narrow 2-1 victory of Espanyol.
Sitting just two points clear of relegation, Elche has done well as of late to stave off the dreaded 18th-20th spot in the table, but they’ll be taking a step up in competition for this one. I like for Villareal to continue their torrid pace of goals in this one, and for them to edge out a far less talented Elche squad who comes into this one overvalued as a whole.
