We’ve officially reached the halfway point of the 2022-23 La Liga season, as things look familiar at the top (and bottom) of the table. When it comes to the top, Barcelona is beginning to pull away from their rival Real Madrid, currently sitting at the top of the table with 44 points.

Let’s take a closer look at the pair of matches I’m on this weekend.
Girona FC (+450) vs. Barcelona (-190)
For just the seventh LaLiga Santander meeting between these clubs, Girona FC welcomes FC Barcelona. In their previous two visits, Barcelona defeated Girona FC 3-0 and 2-0 at their home field.
They will need another victory in the neighboring city to clinch the title of winter champions, which would place them atop the standings halfway through the current campaign. Looking at the statistics going into this one, they should have no problem doing just that.
Coming into Saturday, Barcelona leads the table in goal differential (+30) by a full eight goals ahead of their next opponent. With a goal differential of -2, Girona has had issues finding the back of the net as of late especially, scoring just two goals since January 14th.
Pick: Barcelona (-190)
Real Valladolid (+150) vs. Valencia (+135)
Real Valladolid will be motivated to win this weekend because they’ve slid into the bottom three on the table, desperately needing wins to avoid relegation. They’re hoping that their new striker, Canadian international Cyle Larin, can lead them to victory.
Having not won in La Liga since the league returned from the World Cup break, Valencia is currently #12 on the table and needs some goals to get things back on track. Their goal differential of +5 puts them in the top 10 in the league, as their defense has been stout, allowing just 20 goals through 17, matches.
I have this one as dead even.
